A passport is (a) a form of your indentification of who are are and the country you come from and (b) it allows you to travel to other countries.....however, you may not be allowed into other countries without their permission....that's what a visa is for...
A visa is placed in your passport as a way for a country to allow you access there. An example of where you can get an american visa in the united kingdom is by going to the American Embassy in the UK who can issue an american visa in your british passport..........the same works for any other country. If there is not an embassy in your country for the place you want a visa...I believe posting your passport may be an option to get a visa.....you may need to look that up though.. |

passports are issued by the country as are the visas. however, you only get a passport from the country you were born in unless you apply for others (which is tough). that's why a lot of people have visas (aka working visas) which allows them the rights to live and work in a country without becoming a citizen, but by doing this, you are not entitled to all rights that citizens in that country have, and a visa can expire (in which you must reapply for one). now passports also expire, but not for 5-10 years and it is very easy to obtain a new one. hope this helped. i can help more if you need it. i have 3 passports and a current australia visa so i can help you if you need it. msg me for more understanding. |

A passport is a form of identification issued to you by a country that you are a citizen, national, etc. of.
A visa is a preliminary document issued by a country or group of countries that states that you have been through a preliminary check and no problems were found. When you arrive at your destination you can still be denied entry!
Or as the Irish put it:
The granting of an Irish visa is, in effect, only a form of pre-entry clearance. It does not grant permission to enter Ireland and Immigration Officers have the authority to grant or deny admission. Visa holders are subject to normal immigration control at the point of entry and should always carry with them the originals or copies of the documents submitted with their visa applications for possible inspection by Immigration Officers. |

A visa is a document permitting an alien to enter a country temporarily or permanently for specific reasons.
Both are usually issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs. (or variations of this)** |
