What is the difference in Canada and the US in gaining sovereignty?

canada did not secure its sovereignty all at once. It was a slow and gradual process that took over 100 years to complete. The United States became a sovereign nation as the result of a revolution. How do you think this difference in gaining sovereignty has affected the character of two nations?

Canada isn't actually soverign because the Queen of England is still their head of state and her appointed reprsentative in Canada can nullify democractically enacted laws.

Having been born in the US but married, and moved to Canada, I can see a huge difference. Americans are more independant and we use that term a lot, and we value our individuality, whereas Canadians tend to be more go with the flow. They entrust the govt to regulate things more than Americans do. Canadians are more traditionalist than Americans. |

The attitude of intolerance to domination caused the revolution. The revolution didn't cause that intolerance. The US, and it's citizens, has not been inclined to accept domination from anyone. Canada has benefited because the UK has treated it gently since, fearing the same from it.
I suspect Canada didn't rebel because the Tories from here all flooded up there during the war and influenced it to hold back.
You could use this as straw man, but we did welsh on Britain. Many nobles sponsored colonies and we threw them out just as we were becoming able to repay. |

The US colonies started a little rag tag revolution and annoyed the British until the British said the hassle was not worth it and went home, leaving the colonies to them selves. In Canada, when the colonists started to get restless, the British not wanting to go through the annoyance again, just gave the Canadians what they wanted right off.
And The queen in Canada is only a figure head, mainly just so Canadians can maintain an identity separate from the Americans.
