Seven of those countries are either gone from it now or been suspended, I.e., Zimbabwe, Fiji, Gambia etc.

u.s isnt part of the commonwealth. when the british empire started to request independance or gained independance they were allowed to join the commonwealth which has no political power or hold over them but they have the british queen has there queen. america didnt join the commonwealth so they are not part of the common wealth altough at one point america was in the british empire.

there is also a commonwealth games and it links the counties together.
and iraq didnt join and if they did they were probably suspended..
