After WW II, Germany was initially divided into four Allied Occupation Zones: US, British, French, and Russian. Ultimately, the four zones were coalesced into two divided countries - East Germany and West Germany. With the fall of Communism and the dissolution of the Soviet Bloc, the reunification came about, symbolically, with the tearing down of the Berlin Wall, which had divided a city, a country, and a people. |

When the Soviet Union disintegrated, East Germany and West Germany reunified into a single democratic German entity. At that point - "reunification". |

In October 1990 East Germany was again united with West Germany for the first time since 1945,East Germany had been under the commies and Russians and the west was under control of the allies Canada,US, UK, France. The Joining together of the east and west again is known as the Re-unification
