OMG! Someone, call the Police! An idealist!!!! Melissa, it's such a good idea, it really is. So basically, this is where you're at in life. You go to a restaurant, you look around at the waste, you walk outside and see the hungry, and your mind can't quite make the connection between this and that, and you ask why? Well, do you believe in the devil? Do you concede that the human heart is a war between greed and charity, with charity coming out as the sacrificial lamb to the lion's jaws of greed? It's hard, darlin'. I know, I see it too. Your idea is right on target, and not because of its specificity. Why don't we do things like this in all of our facets of living? Look, with our waste product in this country, we could probably feed many others, but we don't. Now, there was a time when people were more free to give, but guess what happened. Eatery X donated its food to the homeless. Then, some worthless waste of a person (I don't mean the homeless by the way, some of the kindest, noblest people I've ever met have been homeless, I just mean one worthless example among them), sued the eatery claiming illness, and took 'em for a ton of money. So, hey, fool me once, shame on you, twice, shame on me. No more food to the homeless. Really, you could blame it as easily on the courts.
Sweet girl, I haven't a true answer for you, but God bless you for looking around and trying. Don't stop, keep seeing ways to improve our world, and when the divine gives you the ability to actually do something about it, don't waste it... |
