What kind of education do you need in order to work in US embassy ?

in United States or overseas

There are no US embassies in the US proper.

The Foreign Service of the State Department, which handles diplomatic and consular affairs and runs the various US embassies around the world only formally requires a high school diploma, although I imagine most people who successfully apply have at least a Bachelor's degree, if not something higher (it is very competitive).

Embassies also hire a number of PT and PT/FT employees, both Americans living abroad and foreign nationals, but in general the embassies set their own job requirements. These requirements are usually based around skills and knowledge, such as speaking English and the local language fluently or being able to type 40 wpm, rather than credentials such as education, but YMMV.

HTH.

I would also want to know the answer for this question. The other day I was thinking about.

There are no US embassies or consulates in the US. You must be a citizen, have a college degree (preferably advanced degree), take foreign service exams for the type of position you want and qualify for. Degrees in international relations, multi-lingual abilities, and experience with things like Junior Year Abroad, extensive travel, facility with languages, Model UN, etc. will be helpful.

You usually start in the State Department offices. If you are lucky enough to be assigned to an overseas post, you will start out with a very minor position in a small country nobody really wants to be assigned to. You go where you are sent.

Any country's foreign service and diplomatic corps is restricted to citizens of that country.

Fastest way: Join the military.

The Marines have the Security Force. I was Army and in a US Embassy in the Office of Defense Cooperation. Air Force and Navy were also represented.
