What would translate better into a career with an Embassy or International Organization?

My husband has an MA in International Politics. In the future we would like to to obtain a job working for an embassy or an international organization. We are currently in the process of joining the Army hoping for a position in Military Intelligence. We needs two things; job experience and student loan repayment.

We can get the loan repayment either way. So what we are left wondering is; would it be better to be an officer and get the leadership experience even if he doesn't get job experience that would translate directly to his future career goals? Or would it be better to go enlisted so we can choose his training and make sure he gets relevant experience?

The officer route requires a BA. The enlisted route requires a high school diploma. He can't join enlisted and apply for OCS later because of the age cutoff.

So yes, what do you think will be better for his career in the long run; any job as an officer or a more relevant job going the enlisted route?

From everything I've read enlistees are told anything they want to hear about jobs and job placement. I sure wouldn't count on getting what you want by enlisting so I'd go the officer route. How about getting a job with the State Dept in DC now instead?
