What would ultimately happen if i overstay my tourist visa in india?

I have seen a person from Holland getting deported at Mumbai for overstay of 3 days in the previous visit. Also a friend of mine, was deported with family - kids alone, when he forgot to get a visa for his kids... as they were born in USA. He had forgotten to bring his PIO (Person of Indian Origin card- which could have saved the horrendous trip back and tough time for kids... Note - i am not saying people are unfriendly here, but law prevails.)
On the contrary I have seen, a woman entering at Philly, USA without a visa for her kids, as she had stamped her visa, long time before she gave birth. Forgot for kid itseems! But took passport and risked entry and airlines didnt bother (BA). So USA govt. did not send her back, but allowed the kid. Her husband today is the Energy Commissioner of Texas....

The best thing would be that Indian govt should allow visa less entry for people for business and tourism and this would get reciprocated world wide.. Just stopping to Invite Jade Goody alone!

I think you have to visit some authorities and explain the reason like being Sick, Lost money etc to move out and also inform your countries embassy.

The tourist visa issued by Government of India is non-extendible. Upon expiration of your visa, you will be reported to your country's consulate and then the consular office will make arrnagements for your deportation. It is advisable that you get in touch with the consulate of your country and ask for their suggestion before flying to India. There are other types of visas, and depending on what you excatly wish to come to India for, you might be a suitable candidate for a visa of longer duration.

You want to stay in India for 9 -12 months. It means you want to study or want to get married.
Better go back to your home country and get back with study visa. Otherwise following will happen with you.
If you are Pakistani than don't dare to stay more than 180 days. Indian Police, CBI and CID will entitle you terrorist.
If you are from Poor Muslim country than it will be same.
If you are from Europe and USA they will give you easy deport.

i had a similar situation. the only thing you have to do is go to the nearest police station and fillout a form. For filling out this form you will need passport size picture, copy of your travel documents, permenent address in india as well as about 1000 rs for the Fee ( some of them might ask for more). but thats basically all you need.

officials in third world countries are easy to buy. you can slip a $20 in your passport at the customs and you will double your visa stay.
