by all means you will not be served the same meal in both of them ?
want to know the world quickly ? freely? join the legion............would you have the nerves? you will have to know some basic french, you will learn fast ! guarantee !
West Point ? whouah ! not sure you will learn french that quick at West Point?
when your life depends on it? the Legion will definitely teach you french faster! for sure :-)
came back, knew you would add something:
Have you ever dreamed of leaving it all behind and running away to join the French Foreign Legion?
Before You Go

There are several things to consider before making the leap from simply thinking of joining the Legion, to actually travelling to France and enlisting at a recruiting centre:

Appraise your physical condition. Activities in the Legion tax your physical endurance and abilities to the maximum. The most important physical requirement is running. You are advised to be able to run at least 10 kilometres with ease. Medical problems of any nature will almost surely disqualify you. Even seemingly minor issues such as poor eyesight can prevent you from being accepted. Recommended minimum physical prerequisites are:
- 30 pushups.
- 50 situps.
- Climb a 20 foot rope without using your feet.
- Run 8 kilometres with a 12 kilogram rucksack in less than one hour.
- 8 chinups with your palms away from you as you grip the bar.
The age range for joining is 18 to 40.
You can't join if you're married.
Women aren't allowed to join. UPDATE: On October 12, 2000 the Legion was ordered to accept women into its ranks. Follow this link to CNN for more on this news item.
What To Take

Don't take anything you don't want to lose. Everything you bring will be stored in a duffel bag when you reach Aubagne. You will never see your belongings again if you're accepted. You are permitted to keep:
A French-English dictionary.
Shaving gear, toilet articles, a towel.
Cigarettes.
Your watch.
Your wallet and approximately 200 francs. (euros now)
An address book or personal contact list.

West Point:
USMA mission
"To educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets so that each graduate is a commissioned leader of character committed to the values of Duty, Honor, Country and prepared for a career of professional excellence and service to the Nation as an officer in the United States Army."
Attention USMA Class of 2012 (and later):
Effective immediately, candidates for the USMA Class of 2012 (i.e. entering USMA in 2008 and later) are required to submit a writing score with their SAT and/or ACT exam. The SAT requires the writing exam as part of the test itself. However, the writing portion on the ACT is currently optional. If you register for the ACT, you must select the “ACT Plus Writing” exam. If you have already registered for an upcoming ACT and did not select the “ACT Plus Writing” exam, you should immediately contact ACT (319-337-1270) to add the writing portion. For more information, please visit:
Start Young
Prepare for USMA at an early age
You need a well-rounded background to successfully compete for admission to West Point, so start early in your high school years.
There are three areas in which you should prepare in order to be competitive in the admissions process:
Academic Preparation
Physical Fitness Preparation
Leadership Preparation
ACADEMIC PREPARATION
West Point encourages you to take a strong college preparatory academic program if you hope to apply and be a competitive West Point candidate. Your high school academic subjects should include:
Four years of English, with a strong emphasis on composition, grammar, literature, and speech.
Four years of math: algebra, plane geometry, intermediate algebra, and trigonometry.
Two years of a foreign language.
Two years of a laboratory science such as chemistry, biology or physics.
One year of U.S. history.
Courses in geography, government, and economics will be helpful as well. If your school includes a course in precalculus and calculus in its curriculum, along with a basic computing course, we suggest you consider taking those courses because they will be helpful during your first year at West Point.
PHYSICAL PREPARATION
To prepare for the rigorous West Point military training, physical education, and intercollegiate athletic programs, you should improve your physical strength and endurance in the following ways:
Participate in vigorous competitive team sports.
Participate in individual sports that require sustained physical effort.
Perform distance running regularly; two miles are recommended.
Perform strenuous conditioning exercises - push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups.
The best way to prepare is by starting off slowly and building on your physical accomplishments. Start with a two-mile run, alternating between running, walking, and gradually increase the amount of running. If you start early, you will be prepared to deal with the physical aspects of the West Point challenge
LEADERSHIP PREPARATIONS
Candidate Orientation Visits System
DAILY VISIT INFORMATION
The USMA Admissions Office offers daily candidate orientation visits for students interested in applying to West Point. Visits are scheduled Monday through Friday during the academic term, the program begins at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at approximately 1:00 p.m. During the visit, prospective candidates accompany their cadet escorts to class, visit the barracks and eat lunch with their escorts in the Cadet Mess. While the candidate takes part in an escorted tour, family and friends receive a group orientation brief to learn about the Admissions process and cadet life, which is followed by a guided-walking tour of the academic areas.
Personal Expenses
Meals:
All candidates are responsible for purchasing their meal tickets to eat in the cadet mess hall during daily and overnight visits. Candidates should report a half hour early, 8:15 a.m., to the Admissions Office to check-in and receive their meal tickets. Personal checks, debit cards and credit cards are not accepted for payment. Exact change in cash is requested. Family and friends may eat lunch at their discretion after the conclusion of the walking tour at various restaurants on- or off-post.
Candidate meal prices are:
Daily Visit: $5.00 (Lunch)
Overnight Visit: $18.35 (1 Breakfast, 2 Lunches, 1 Dinner)
Additional information on meals is included in the overnight visit confirmation e-mail.
