Which uk visa do I need for my son?

We r moving to the UK from Canada. I will be going with a British passport (obtained through ancestry). He does not qualify for one and therefore needs a visa. He is 7 and needs to go to school while there. Does he have to have a student visa or can he go on another type of visa? With a student visa it appears that he is required to go to private school (fee paying) Is there any way around this? Thanks

The Dark Side

A student visa is for "adult" students travelling on their own and would be the wrong one in this case. What you need is a settlement visa for him as your dependant. I've given the link below to the official guidance on this.
