Why do American tourists love to buy Cuban cigars imported to Canada when they come to Canada, but hate Cuba?

Why do American tourists love to buy Cuban cigars imported to Canada when they come to Canada, but hate Cuba?

Poor little Cuba poses no threat to the Mighty USA, yet few people in the US would ever try to get thier government to lift sanctions against Cuba. Yet I have noticed hundreds of US Navy sailer boys buying Cuban cigars when they arrived in port in Victoria, BC, Canada. If Americans weren't such hippocrites, the world would like them more. Canadians get killed in "freindly fire" in Afghanistan and it's not even on the news in the US. But they know who fathered Anna Nicole Smith's illigitimate kid. Go figure......

Americans have never hated Cuba.
The US has always wanted freedom for Cuba.
Have you ever heard of living under Communist Rule?
It is bad for anyone to buy Cuban cigars, admitted.
Go to the Cuban community and talk your silly little prattle.

Just cause people don't like a country that doesn't mean they have to stop buying stuff from them. Those people have the oil, we don't like them but we still buy it. Same stuff, just different situations.

Because it's just like your beer. I like it better than US beer. And if you weren't such a HYPOCRITE (note the spelling)you'd know the answer to your question.

You really should learn how to use the spell check.

America's relations with Cuba are more influenced by a stubborn government and very vocal, and crucial constituency in South Florida. America, in its Cold War days was not fond of the fact that a communist had taken over Cuba. Castro's human rights record is far from spotless, and as more exiles fled Cuba for the United States, it was deemed necessary to act. President Kennedy authorized the poorly planned Bay of Pigs Operation, which failed miserably and cast the US in a bad light. Not too long after, Castro, feeling threatened by his neighbor 90 miles to the north, became buddy buddy with the Soviets; allowing them to put nuclear-armed missiles in Cuba. The United States, thoroughly shocked that our "enemy's" nukes were only 90 miles away from us (regardless of the fact that we had simliar installations within similar distances from Soviet Russia) got into a showdown that almost brought the world into WWIII. Ultimately, Kennedy's naval blockade of Cuba successfully ended the missile crisis. However, the whole ordeal had left a bad taste in the mouths of many Americans; not to mention harsh trade embargos with Cuba (hence why we must go north to get things from down south). Even as the general public's view of Cuba has softened, the government has been slow in moving. Part of this is due to it's own stubborness, and dislike (there's no other word for it) of Castro. Anti-Castro Cuban immigrants (who gain amnesty as soon as they touch American soil) are a large, vocal constituency in South Florida. As Florida has pretty much always been an important state to win if you want to be President, appeasing that constituency is vital.

People like Cuban cigars because they're usually pretty good. People go north to buy them because we can't here. Look at it this way, if they go north to buy cigars, they're also likely to spend money at other stores in Canada, boosting your economy.

Its not hipocritial, for me the cuban cigar is no more then a status symble, I have had cuban cigars frm CAnada, and i hate to say it but thhey arnt very good, I prefer honey dipped backwoods cigars, there from the U.S, besides heres a question for you, why do so many canadians love to work in the U.S but live in CAnada and mainain there residance there. Could it be lets see..............they dont want to support the government when the time for war is at hand or is it because they are like the little yellow stains in the snow. So lets see who the hypocrits are now

Oh go back to France. If you don't like America then don't come here. Simple as that. Americans aren't the only ones buying Cuban cigars and not helping them. Canada included. They are considered some of the best cigars in the world. Why do Americans buy Gucci? Because Italy produces some of the best fashions in the world. There are plenty of political occurences on our news. Don't act like no other country has celebrity news. People are killed everyday that don't make the news.

I guess one could ignore the fact that Cuba imprisons human rights activists and dissadents, so we could have a Cuban cigar. That would be pretty petty though. Hey, odd how you know about Anna Nicole Smith's kid...they covering that in Canada?

We put those sanctions on Cuba during JFK's administration, when they wanted to nuclear weapons on their little island pointed at the US. This sort of ticked us off. They have also sent us boat loads of their criminals. What we do with Cuba, I really don't care, as long as they pose no threat to the US. Keep the sanctions, or lift the sanctions, it doesn't bother me one bit. It behooves Cuba to remain in their same condition right now. They know it.

Cuban cigars are very good but for some worthless reason the US has a trade embargo against Cuba preventing us from legally buying any Cuban products.

Political decisions should not affect individual taste of good things. If the politicians say no to Cuban cigars in USA and it is a free nation, then get a fine smoke in Canada. There is no hypocrisy in showing your love for good things politics or no politics.

so are you anti american? is that what youre saying? why is that i constantly hear the canadians dissing the US but then they come down here to shop all the time (believe me i live in bellingham WA) and they ***** non stop, yet back home they brag about buying stuff in the states. cana"duh" has lost what 39 troops in total? weve lost thousands!!! (2691 to be exact in iraq and 338 in afghanistan). believe it or not but most americans arent behind this war you are talking about. GWB has the lowest approval ratings of any pres in history, its been hovering around 39% for months. I dont know who the hell fathered anna nicoles illegit kid and dont really give a damn, i do know that the trade embargos have been in place with cuba since the 1960s and most of the sailors you refer to arent more than 30 years old. so lets see here 2006 minus 30 = 1976!!! so lets see, if the embargos have been in place that long, most of them dont even really understand why they cant but the cigars in the US. im not sure if as a citizen of cana"duh" that you understand the fact that had the USSR been able to install those nuclear war heads back in the 60s your pathetic existances up north eh would have been wiped off the face of the earth as well. especially considering that most of your major cities are within an hour of the border with the US. why is that do you think? its not for the ease of being able to come to down here is it????????? heaven forbid!!!

DLB
The Anna thing is funny but, mayb the guys just like the way the cuban cigar's are crafted. Then again you gotta remember that's not how all of the american's feel.

cigars are fine but Castro, Iran and Venezuela plan to kill the u.s.
do you think they won't were a coat when they come for you?
p.s. is there room for 30,000,000 illegals up there? we are running out of room down here. EH?

Most Americans have no problem with Cuba. Its not about trying to get our government to lift sanction its more about forgetting that sanctions exist. There are to many other issues we are facing that distract us from Cuba. The incident with friendly fire was on the news and believe it or not most of the media fails to report on US soldiers in Afghanistan. The focus is on the mess in Iraq. Your attitude is why most Americans hate the Canadians.

John L
For the same reason that although most people hate murders and organized crime, many of those same people finance those same activities by buying pot/coke/x/whatever which pays for the bullets used to go into gang bangers guns, and possibly your loved ones will be where the bullets end up.

Legalize drugs, tax them, use the tax money to help people who want to stop. Let the people (over 18) who want to use them use all they want.

Users will get them anyway. Face it, going to the local drug store to buy cheap recreational drugs would be harder for most users than going to the corner pusher or a party where they are going to go anyway. And, it would put the pushers and gangbangers out of a job.

?
Actually, there was an article about Candians getting shot by "accident." We try not to broad cast anyone getting shot by "accident." It looks bad. I don't think that most of us are smart enough to even know that there are sanctions on Cuba.....I don't hate Cuba.....Most of us are just ignorent idiots with our heads stuck up our a$$! I hate the fact that you haven't met the people who actually know how to use thier brains. ;)

MoMoney23
Yup, we love cuban cigars, but hate Cuba. We love crepes but hate France. We love eggrolls but hate the Far East. We love cheap prescription drugs, but hate Canada. We love tacos and burritos, but hate Mexico. So we get our cake and eat it too. Not our fault the rest of the world bows down to us. If we are such hippocrites, fat, dumb, etc, what does that make the rest of the world, trying to get into the US, keep up with the US, or bash the US?
