Why foreign nurses migrating to the states? and people in the states aren't in to nursing?

There are many reason for the nursing shortage in the US. Since it is predominantly a woman's career,alot leave when they start their family and never return. It is a very stressful job,alot get burned out after working a few years. The hours are terrible,the work is physically hard and the pay is just as bad. I worked as a nurse for 20 years,I lasted longer than most. Even though I had 20 years experience,the highest pay I ever got was $14.00 an hour. You are constantly worried about being sued if you make one little mistake. Some feel it just isn't worth the hassle,you can go work elsewhere without the responsibility of having people's lives in your hand and earn the same amount.
That being said,I loved being a nurse and most of us wouldn't want to be anything else.It is a unique career and definitely not for everyone.
Just a few thoughts on the nursing shortage. Alot of young girls have no interest in the nursing career and why we might be relying more on foreign nurses.

nursing does not pay. If it paid well they'd have no problem recruiting native men and women. However, most find the pay little compensation for the stress of being a nurse. A single man or women could not live off of the starting pay despite having a college degree. It is a pity. Nursing has got to be one of the more important professions.

Nursing is hard work and the pay isn't great. Nursing only pays if you go on to become an educator, clinical specialist, practitioner, or anesthetist. This requires a master's degree or higher qualification. Otherwise, nurses only make around $34K/year starting out. I'm a new nurse, got my bachelor's degree, and it's appalling how much I'm paid. It's going to take me years to pay off my loans and get on my feet. I work 12 hour shifts which can be brutal and you never get out on time. You also work weekends and holidays.

Nurses really should be paid more given the responsibility and stress that we have. How come dental hygienists are started out at $45K just for cleaning teeth and taking x-rays? As a nurse I'm expected to do blood transfusions, chemotherapy(once certified), and other life saving procedures that take technical skill and close monitoring. More Americans would go into nursing if people were paid what they're worth and the job was less stressful.

I agree with the person who said trial lawyers are to blame. We're all so afraid of being sued and the paperwork is tremendous because of these junk lawsuits. If I didn't have so much paperwork I could actually spend more time with the patients!

british nurses are going to the states because after their years of training in the uk , there are no jobs available for them ( also highly skilled doctors too)because labour has imported lots of filipinos to do their job!

Foreign nurses are coming in because there is a nursing shortage. I have no idea why people aren't going into nursing, it's actually a pretty lucrative career.

Nurse in the USA do make good money. My fiancee recently graduated as a nurse and is making around $20 per hour before taking her state exam. I have seen adverts for community nurse at a rate of $50 per hour.

A Nurse practitioner make around $100K a year and a theater nurse around $120K. If you don't get a degree then the wage is a lot lower with a nursing assistant earning around $10 per hour and a LPN around $14 per hour.

It is very difficult to pass your BS (nursing) degree with only 25 - 30 percent of her class that started graduating. With these low number filling the ranks and the growth in population, retirement and just leaving for other reason, nurses from abroad are required to fill the ranks.

Most countries nurses are not good enough to make the grade as a RN and fill the Assistant or LPN positions but if you put the starting wage of a British nurse (Both degrees are seen as equal), Â£19K per year against a US RN just starting out you can see why British nurses are migrating over.
