Why in the world did the US spend 700 million for a new embassy building in Iraq?

A crap-heap country and we spend almost a billion. Somebody needs to pull their head out and stop spending these huge sums of money. Guess who ends up paying for it? Lunacy.

We spend money all over the place. It's because we have the money to spend. We have money coming out of our ears we have so much of it. I would like to see some of that money go to poor people and to people that can't make their house payments and car payments and people that can't put any food on the table for their kids. We will all work to pay for all of this stuff too. The money is going to keep on coming too because we are so responsible. We are the most generous people in the world too. The whole world should love the United States of America because we are so generous. We send our young people off to die on their soil too so that they can be free like us and so that they can have the same freedoms that we have. Isn't it great.

They actually spent US$1 billion dollars on the United States Embassy to Iraq to fortify it and skim some for the rogue defense contractors to build a mini-city.

How does it not make sense to make a giant headquarters in a war zone? Embassies don't just do visas and consular business, you know.
