It's a lot easier, and a lot less expensive, to form economic ties between nations and build relationship that way, than to constantly be at odds over everything. This approach has been a constant in relations between China and America since President Nixon first visited China way back when.

He was friendly to Afghanistan during 80s, friendly to Iraq against Iran, many times friendly to Pakistan in the past five decades but every time betrayed all his friends.

China is a powerful country and poses a great threat to the United States. Believe me,we need to get along with China. Read up more on China and their military capabilities and you will see what I am talking about. The people of China are obviously happy with there government. You won't find them trying to overthrow their gov. It is not the job of our country to impose our ways on others. I know from watching The bush administration that this is hard to believe. I'm sure if you were to see the news in their county, you would find less crime due to stricter sentencing than here. Do not fool yourself into thinking that this is a free country. Our gov. has spent years turning our constitution into something that benefits them,not the people!!

My guess is economics have a lot to do with that relationship. We import tons of goods made in China.

Bush isn't friendly to anyone unless there is something to be gained from it. As china's economy could well overtake the US economy in the next 10 years my guess is that. Bush isn't all rosy-eyed with a halo either look at the mess in Iraq. admitted China has some human rights issues but also look at the poverty many black people live in in America. New Orleans is a prime example. Also why is he so friendly to the Saudis who also have human rights issues? answer because the middle east has most of the worlds oil within its limits.
