Why is the UK not a member of the French Organisation La Francophonie when Greece, Macedonia and Bulgaria all are.

the UK has not chosen to enter the schengen zone,
Ireland and the United Kingdom were, at the time of the implementation of the Schengen acquis into EU law, the only EU members that did not sign up to the original Schengen Convention of 1990 and retained a right to opt out of the application of the rules after their conversion into European Union law. Thus, they have not ended border controls with other EU Member States, this being the core purpose of the Schengen Agreement, but apply the provisions relating to police and judicial co-operation which form part of the Schengen acquis.
Francophonie? is related to France only, it has nothing to do with the shcengen zone, one gave you the explanation ahead of me(see his explanation)

La Francophonie is an organization for French-speaking nations. According to wikipedia, "The prerequisite for admission is not the degree of French usage in the member countries, but a prevalent presence of French culture and French language in the member country's identity, usually stemming from France's interaction with other nations in its history." 8% of the Greek population speaks French. 9% of the Bulgarian population speaks French. Macedonia likely has a similar percentage. In the U.K. only 2.3% of the population speaks French. Beyond that, the U.K. does not heavily rely upon and is not heavily influenced by French culture. So, while there are influences, it's probably not deemed to the level appropriate for joining La Francophonie. |

I don't see why the U.K has to follow in the footsteps of Greece, Macedonia and Bulgaria. U.K. is a not even geographically near these places, nor do they speak the same languages. I don't get the question, it like me asking why France does not speak Mexican. |

Francophone should mean "French Speaking". Oh yeah i know lots of French speaking Bulgarians. lol. |

I thought that francophonic countries are the ones that the french like owned but they gained independance but do still speak french like Senegal or Madagascar. |
