Last night I made the dumb mistake of breaking a window. I was given a citation, and told it may be waverable... or I might have to appear in court for criminal damaging (what it says on the ticket). I knew the officer, and he said its just a ticket and is most likely waverable as long as I take care of the window before the court date. I am currently being investigated for a DOJ and DOD secret clearance (I have already received my interim) and I was wondering how this will effect the process. Im freaking out and I dont want to lose the awesome job I just got.

The main questions in clearance:
Do you work for the bad guys?
Do you have family living under bad-guy control?
Are you blackmailable?
Are you in desperate need of money?
The window incident shouldn't have any effect on the above. Dishonesty also weights heavily. The best bet is to tell your clearance investigator the whole story, and your plans to remedy the situation. |

Fix the window and you should be okay. A secret clearance is pretty run of the mill. |

A secret clearance is no big deal. The investigation is proforma.... finger print check and national agency check. No matter how this turns out it's extremely important that you report the matter to your Security Manager. The last thing you want if for them to find out from anyone else but you.
This would likely only become a concern if you were trying to get a Top Secret or higher. In that case an actual investigation is done by the FBI. |
