Will a Bad Conduct Discharge keep me from getting a passport?

I do not want "guessed" answers. I am seeking answers only from professionals who know the system, and those with BCD's that did or did not get approved for a passport.

A BCD is not considered a federal felony.

A passport is identification. All it does is identify you as a citizen of the United States. A BCD doesn't change that status.

It's possible that a BCD might prevent you from getting a visa, however.

Note that sometimes, a passport is not enough to enter another country. Many countries have visa waiver programs for tourism trips, but others do not.

A BCD will not stop a person from getting a passport. It might make getting a visa for some countries a bit more difficult, but really, no affect at all.

I should think it would be quite the contrary.

You can still obtain a passport. Its an Identity Document that would identify you and the country that you hold citizenship in.

The real question is will any country allow you to enter their country with your federal felony conviction. Because the only way to receive a Bad Conduct Discharge is to be convicted at a Court's Martial.
