wondered if you can help.
i worked as a camp councilor on an american summer camp 4 years ago and i have been invited back this summer from June to August.
The thing is, an end of school prank went wrong and i got arrested - basically my friends stitched me up and i got arrested for " obtaining services by deception" and had to go to court and pay for the room.
That was 3 / 4 years ago and i really want to go back to camp - the thing is, i dont know if this will stop me getting a temporary work visa for the usa? I like in england.
some people have told me that its only a problem if its more serious offences like drugs, guns, fighting, etc and i called the american embassy and she said its notnecessarilyy a problem, still to apply but i dont want to pay the 120 pounds if im more than likely gonna be turned down.
its getting me down as i dont know what to do. just wondered if anyone has any knowledge / experience of this?

Don't worry you will be fine, If you went to court and the case is cleared and you payed your fine, Then you should be able to obtain your Visa :) |

To be honest... You won't know if it is OK or not until you apply... Explain that it was a stupid, childish prank (DO NOT MAKE EXCUSES OR TRY TO JUSITFY ANYTHING) and just accept responsibility for whatever happened...
BE HONEST...
The more open and honest you are about how you "Did something stupid that you should not have done" the better your chances are.
If you try to justify your actions, blow them off as just a childish prank, or try to blame your friend... It will make you look small and will work against you.
If you take responsibility for your actions and make it clear that something like that will NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN, I bet you will get approved.
It is for a camp... Working with children... And if you stress your altruistic reasons for coming over here, I'm sure it will be overlooked.

p.s. Laws differ from country to country... Something "Minor" in the US is a felony in Canada...
A friend of mine discovered that the fact he got a DUI (Driving while Intoxicated) ticket from 18 years ago is a felony in Canada so his whole group of fishing buddies was turned away from crossing in to Canada...
They just wanted to fish in Canada for a weekend... And a mistake 18 years ago makde them REFUSE THEM ENTRY...
