Wishing to obtain a passport but concerned about felony records barring me. What is criteria?

Recently released from prison in the past year on a drug sale [2nd dg.] and traffic charge[1st dg.] and will not have civil rights restored for quite some time in the state of Fla.. I also have [1st dg.] robbery [2nd dg.] con. fel. pos. of firearm and [3rd dg.] pos with int. to dist. Last but not least federal chrges pos w. int. to dist. marijuana and consp. w. intent to possess marjuana. ie. importation/ smuggling. With that does anyone know whether or not it would be possible to legally obtain a U.S. passport to visit family in Thailand or Costa Rica? I am not on any supervision but I am concerned because of the nature of these charges and the degrees of such. Any info would be greatly appreciated and save much time. Thank you for your time. Getting a passport is one thing, but getting an entry visa is quite another. Your P.O. will be able to tell you what you can do about getting a passport, when or if. If you are completely without a P.O., then I doubt you will have a problem getting the passport. But you can bet that Thailand, especially, won't welcome you if then know about your history!

You probably can get a passport. You may NOT be allowed to use it while on prabation. Other countries may not let you in.

Remember that, about 40 years ago, John Lennon was almost deported because of a prior drug bust.

I think you can get a passport once your period of parole and/or probation is over. Ask your P.O.

once you have paid your debt to society, your country of citizenship has an obligation to supply you with proper documentation. A Passport. 1. it is a federal matter, local courts wouldn't know. 2. getting a visa to get into another country, especially Thailand, will be hard. They are very strict on drug offenses. 3. there is no law that states you may not leave the country if you are a FORMER criminal. granted they may have you register with the police department of the foreign country, but doubt you will have a problem with the passport.
