DECREASE until we get the illegal alien crisis taken care of! We can afford any more! We can't take care of the whole world.

BTW, this is NOT a racist issue. This is a legal issue. It doesn't matter where the illegal alien criminal comes from. If the illegal is from Canada, England or Peru - if they are here illegally, they should not be here! They are breaking the law!

This forum has greatly altered my opinion of immigration. The lack of appreciation of the US accepting immigrants is appalling. Currently, a million plus are allowed in and that is a source of contention.

I now believe that only spouses taken by American citizens and persons with skills in short supply should be allowed in. Nothing else.

You want to come to the US - get a PhD.

decrease it until we get our illegal immigration debacle straightened out. it would be good incentive for our government and business to resolve the issue.

Decrease! We have tens of millions of legal aliens and 20 to 38 million illegal aliens in our country. Many of them are potential traitors, terrorists, or criminals. We need to slow down immigration to about 250,000 a year, deport the illegal aliens by enforcement through attrition, and get a better quality of legal immigrants by limiting chain immigration.

We are at war with radical Islamists in a struggle that may last for hundreds of years. We should be very careful who we allow into our country. When the Iraq war is over, Al Qaeda will concentrate its efforts on killing Americans in the Homeland.

Our Veterans Come First

We should maintain the current level of LEGAL immigration. Immigration is good for the country. But, only when done legally.

We need to first get rid of most of the illegal immigrants and let our economy reach it's natural equilibrium again.

Once we've done that, we can determine how many immigrants we can accept each year (legally) and from what sectors (agriculture, medicine, sciences, skilled labor, finance, etc.).

I think the solution is to control it. Decrease it but without mistreating anyone who is merely seeking a better life.
The US should legalize the current immigrants that can show proof of being of good moral hold a clean criminal record.

Another thing that would be very beneficial is the creation of a Temporary Protection Status program for those who come from unprivileged countries and wish to come and work in the US for a short period of time or season legally. That way they won't try to enter the country illegally and will not try to stay in the country illegally either. This way the US will be seen as a country that wants to help 3rd world countries while also controlling the immigration rate in the country.

Over the years it's been amillion, during Clinton it was raised to 2.5 million a year, Bush dropped it to 1.25 million and now at 1 million per CNN the other day. We have about 9 million people come here every year on a visa. once the visa expires they are suppose to leave, but how many do yo think did not leave and hide out in 2005*, over 3 million and the number keeps growing. Then on the southern border 1 in 7 caught is fro a terror sponsoring country.

So you got almost triple by the former guys and we should drop it back to .5 million or less and cut the visas by 70% and it the people jump the visa and hide, then throw them in jail. Do you realize that that 3 million a year on visas are from all over the world and we don't know where they are. So that's 3, 1 and probably 2-3 illegals coming in for the amnesty and that's 6-7 million and the country cannot handle it. If Clinton had left immigration at 1 million it might be different, but that did not happen, he brought in 20 million, so we have to cut it.

Theoretically we should deport about 500,000 for the next ten years. take care. We need to take cre of the people we have now, then bring in others.

America should certainly be letting in at least as many legal immigrants as it is now. If illegal immigration could be largely ended, and vast majority of illegals returned to thier homelands, taking more legal immigrants would certainly be a possibility - as long as it's done advisedly, bringing in 'desireable' (skilled, productive, or investors or at least not criminals) persons of diverse nationalities.

If illegal immigration can't be brought under control, it might actually be necessary to have a temporary moratorium on immigration, just until the borders could be secured and illegals dealt with.

i believe maintain the current rate of immigrants because without them this country is worth **** cuz who will work in crops ,restaurants ,rich peoples homes and ect who will keep or clean restroom clean for a piece of s@#$% of being paid!!!

the US should make a legal pathway into US from Mexico. maybe that will give them the incentive to wait. and it would slow down the rate of illegal immigration.
