2nd language in England?
Find answers to your legal question.

2nd language in England?

In England, what is the 2nd most often spoken language? Not the native languages like Gaelic. I know there are a lot of Asians in England, is perhaps one of those the 2nd most spoken language? If so which one?

My husband is British. Currently we live in the US (he has a US green card) In a couple of yrs we will be moving back to England. I work in the health care field, so I am wanting to learn the second most spoken language I would run across the most, in relation to dealing with patients in the health care arena.

Tough question. There's no one dominant second language, like Spanish in the US.

There are a great number of Polish people across the country, bu they usually have decent English.

As an American you will have enough trouble understanding English people's regional accents, I'm British born and bred and I do!
There is no second language data in the UK as yet. This is being addressed during the next census. There are common languages such as Urdu but in the main the Urdu speakers speak English or will have an English speaker to hand in the the case of Older people.

Some interesting information on statistics here

And an interactive map showing density of minority populations

good luck
