Interesting idea and in a way not a bad one - but these were men who tried to break up the country, not preserve it, and the actions of the South led to millions of dead Americans.
But maybe there's another way - a stamp would definitely be in order if you ask me.

No. All American Heroes should be on national currency.. should be reconized nationally. Both Lee and Stonewall were Southern Heroes and as such supported a very hard process. it is very difficult for many to understand the issue as Robert E. Lee did. He despised slavery, but he stuck with his state. He stayed with his homeland, and that is as many feel he should of done if he was to fight in that war. And he was asked to fight in that war. That bond isn't always known by many. I have it for the United States.. many don't.

Most people do not know a great deal about the South of those times.. the soldiars of Lee's Army of the Northern Virginia. They mostly didn't have any education.. usually fought because the Union Army was in Virginia.. usually fought because the Union Army would rape and ravage their land and women. "Fight boys... fight for our land." And they did. No.. they did not read newspapers and couldn't afford to buy one. Seldom crossed their pastor, and that pastor was always supported by the local land owners with slaves. Some 340,000 men in the South with slaves and they were the ones who started and ran the war.

Not for the currency at all. But we need to have all understand what happened back there very much.

No. Not at all. They tore up the United States. Anyone who destroys a unified country, sets family fighting against one-another, should not be honored like that.

The civil war is over But from what I can see the north is rewritten the history The Yankees are saying the civil war was over states rights Mr Lincoln hated black people etc We southern boys know it was over slavery If it was over state right what right? the right to say y'all I've heard that Mr Lincoln freed the slaves only to punish the south
I thought that now that Mr Obama was an admirer of Mr Lincoln that the liberals would drop all this as would it not be blasphemous to dispute the Savior?

No. For starters we don't need a sign that the civil war is finally over because we know it is; we don't obsess over long dead history like *cough* some other places. Furthermore a lot of Americans might not even know who those dudes are because schools here focus more on reading, math, and science than history by a long shot. Also pretty much all Americans except for some serious hardcore loons are relieved that the North won the war (even southerners) because the thought of a nation divided horrifies us; they split up the union, that is unforgivable. We're really honest to God not caught up on race as much as Europe thinks we are.

Oh, there will be some group somewhere that will start a small war about that...I do hope and pray that the damn civil rights war gets done some day soon. I don't have a racism problem about any race. We are all human beingsâ™¥

Nope, the southern states seceded from the Union.
If they would have succeeded, slavery would still be legal there, probably.
You probably will not get many answers from southern folk, because I bet the thought never even occurred to them.

For one they lost. Losers dont get to be on money, it's unprecedented.

Secondly, what they stood for (i.e. southern secession and slavery) is not an american ideal and we should not honor them that way.

Thirdly, who exactly do we replace on the money? Those guys on the money are there for a reason.

Fourthly, this was a long time ago now. It's not relevant to our current state or to young people.

They were great tactical generals and are remembered well in the annals of military history, but thats where it ends.
