After getting married on a K-1 visa what's next?

After getting married on a K-1 visa what's next?

Once I receive my K-1 visa and return to the U.S. and marry my fiancee what forms do I then need to file to gain my Green Card and Social Security number? Do I have to remain in the U.S after marriage while filing for my Green Card? If so for how long?

It can take quite a while to adjust status, but it is possible to leave the US and return while you're waiting, as long as you apply for Advance Parole through USCIS and get it before you leave. If you left without getting Advance Parole, you wouldn't be able to return without an immigrant visa. Be sure to file for work authorization as well.

You can apply for SSN before your visa expires. Otherwise you will have to wait till you have EAD or GC.

You must file to Adjust your Status from Fiance to Permanent Resident. You must remain in US until you get green card which could take from 8 months to 18 months.

And you do know that Permanent Resident means that you live permanently in US, right?
