Am I truly a racist if I am against illegal immigration?

Yes, there are those who hold their views on immigration for racial reasonsâ€”on both sides of the issue. (For every David Duke, there is a Congressman Gutierrez.)

This does not mean, however, that immigration is a racial issue.

And while the immigration issue does attract racists, it is our experience at ProjectUSA that most of these racists are to be found amongst our pro-mass immigration opponentsâ€”in particular, among the ethnic-identity pressure groups and politicians.

To those well-meaning but confused people who insist that immigration is a racial issue, we always ask: "Well, then, since you are absolutely certain one's position on immigration is all about race, what are your racial reasons for supporting this current flood?"

This question often causes confusion.

We believe that the confusion arises from our nation's unfortunate muddle-headedness on issues of race and culture. The current dogma of the "multi-cultural" ideology has convinced many Americans that "culture" and "race" are the same things. Just think of the endless paeans to multiculturalism in advertising, political speech, academia, etc: they are always illustrated by a photo of people of different races.

This is dangerous and wrong.

While a black American and a white American might be different colors, they are equally American, i.e., they share the same culture.

Modern "multi-culturalists" are the true racists when they elevate skin color to a place as primary as culture.

If we have racial problems today how will our problems improve with a half a billion people thanks to over-immigration struggling to survive in an overpopulated country?
Shouldn't we first resolve the racial problems we have instead of continuing with an immigration policy that will double our population and risk exacerbating an already increasing tendency in our country toward group identity politics??

Those who fear racial conflict or the rise of fascism should support, as we do, an immigration time-out in order to take a breather, reassess what we are doing, and give the assimilation magic time to work.

I checked very carefully. I can state with total confidence that illegal is NOT a race, therefore you are not a racist, at least not for opposing illegal immigration.

They'll say why do you have a problem with immigrants (notice it's missing "illegal") we are all immigrants or ended up here thanks to immigrants. My family did not come here illegally. They'll also play the race card even though you are against any illegal immigrant no matter if they are from mexico, china, el salvidor etc. Just remind them that this is about the rule of law, not race.

It depends on why you are against it. If you are against it because of the color of their skin, or their culture, then, yes you are a racist. But if you believe as you say you do, as I do, no, you are not a racist.

no your not. it is against federal law to come into this country undocumented. alot of gangs and drugs are comming into the us from mexico. i live in utah and were cracking down on them. they have to pay a 10,000.00 fine and pay the govt 1,000.00 to get registered. and if they are caught now they will be finger printed and a pic taken of them or if they do commit a crime, they will be put in prision. what kind of fool undocumented person wants that? cant see your family and work under the table, and cant send money back to the rest of there familys so they can afford to come.
on the interstates now comming out of mexico. they have special patrols in which my brother is one in az. and he catches them rite and left. they are finger printed and there pic taken and sent back in about 50 miles over into the border. if caught again they will be fined and sent to prison for awhile and taken back. what kind of life do they want now. i think its good. if we stop patronizing them with there lang on the store boxes it will force them to learn our lang. the senate passed a bill last yr that english is the nations lang. speak it or leave it.

No, we have to find a solution to solve this problem. Everyone in the US except the native indians are immigrants or decendents of immigrants. Some are even forced immigrants (slave labor). I think the solution is simple. We are enabling them:
As a US citizen I have had the experiences of marrying a canadian citizen and visiting the poorest parts of mexico also. After seeing the conditions that the mexican people go through, I cannot in my heart blame them for wanting to run. The problem we are trying to solve here is not whether they should come over the border or not. It is all a matter of how. My husband has spent 6 years of his life and well over 5,000$ to come into this country legally. His residence interview and his citizenship interview have been pushed back from the normal wait times while the government tries to accomodate those who are here illegally. On top of that the fees have increased over 300% from before 9/11. That does not include the attorney's fees. On top of that My husband is a skilled laborer and could easily get a good construction job. But in the US he can't. Why? He is an immigrant (and an italian-looking one at that). Apparently, any person who is an immigrant is not worth what his skills and experience profess. He is an immigrant. Company's have over-looked him, passed him over, or blatantly offered him less money than his counter-parts. He is legal, but that does not matter. He is a hard worker with skills, but that does not matter. All they see is immigrant. Apparently Canada's labor force has no skill in the US Employers eyes. Can I blame the illegals for that? YES! Why hire a legal when there are illegals just across the train tracks who will do it for half the cost? But on the other hand 'half cost' to an illegal is sometimes big bucks in comparisan to where they came from. This debate has lobbyists in the fray for monetary gains only. Don't be fooled. At the same time, what does the legal process do for weeding out the good from the bad immigrants. If I am not mistaken, the terrorists were "legal". What is congress's answer to that? Higher fees and longer wait times? Give me a break. So how do we fix something that is not working on either side? Scrap it and start over. Illegals would be more inclined to cross over to the legal side if the fees were not so high, the wait times for being able to work and make a living were not so long. Illegals would be more inclined to cross over to the legal side if there were not any profit savy companies around to employ, abuse, and under-pay them. It is these companies that keep them coming. Punish them for starters. Force them to retro-pay for all the cheap labor they employ or employed. Use that retro-pay to fund tightening the border and building a system that keeps track of everyone who comes across our borders, whether by plane, train, boat, car, horseback, or foot. Document everyone without recourse. Then sort out the bad from good apples. You commit a crime, you get sent back to whatever spit of land you came from whether the crime is small or large. The legal immigrants have decent jobs. The higher wages give our economy a boost. Companies who make practice of abusing and under-paying illegals will be punished severly and should be put out of business. Those who want to enter the USA will have no choice but to get documented to get a job. Where there is no water, there is no fish. And Immigrants should not have to fear the government deporting them for any reason, but they should fear and respect the law.

I would answer is not directly but with some examples. Psychologically, those who are against the illegal immigrant, may have reasons, one of the reason may be that they think they are "the best nation on the earth" (Tonys' speech) and may think illegal immigrant may decrease our economy but lets be realistic about human nature. No matter where we come from, everyone has humanitarian right to live where they are safe and can be survive. Those who are not going back to their origin country, they must have been facing challenges/problem and their life may be in danger so what can we do as human being to stop it. If we have sense of belonging we wouldn't see the differences, instead we would see the world as human beings' one nation or state. Sometime its difficult to actually see beyond our own understanding of the world. One of the reasons might be society which is directed toward cultural understanding. When you see the world from various triangle, that is the time, you will answer your own question.

I got an idea, why not take all the male illegals and gather them up and send them to fight for us in Iraq. Those who return safe after 12 months, we will give them thier citizenship. Liberals define racism as anyone who disagrees with their agenda or point of view. Liberals support illegal immigration because liberals want as many people dependant on government as posssible and know that people like homeless, mentally ill, illegal, criminal or any other "takers" from society, will become part of the democratic party. Illegals are simply another group that liberals can exploit, to gain power.
