nope this is america why should you learn spanish. |

Not wrong. You should try to learn about things that excite you whenever possible because that's probably where your potential lies.
If you're not interested in learning anything....that's a problem.
Maybe another language? My daughter is learning ASL--American Sign Language. She's very physical so I think it appeals to her more than a verbal language.
Just learn things that's the main thing. |
|

Evymisa
 |
definitely not. well, assuming, you're an american referring to the people who are moving here from Mexico causing our society to have to adapt to and accomodate them. having to learn spanish because of other people coming to our country refusing to learn OUR language is just ridiculous :) |

No you're not.I may be Pro but I'm also Pro English. We have too many cultures and languages here to accommodate everyone. Can you imagine the mass confusion? We need one common language in order for all to succeed on an equal footing.America has long been English. |

Do you live in a predominantly spanish-speaking country? If not, you're no more 'wrong' for not learning it than you are for not learning Arabic, Chinese, or Swahili. |

NO, not at all but it is a useful skill. |

Yes! you are wrong for that, you selfish, selfish person you. Every good American should learn to speak Spanish fluently.

That's your choice, but while press for 2 for Spanish makes me crazy, leaning Spanish might not be a bad idea. |

No one is saying you have to. |

No you are not. We are in America, where we speak English.
I don't understand why people move here to live (illegal or not) and refused to speak or learn American English. Would it not make your everyday life easier?
I was in the mall the other day, and a lady was trying to get a refund on an item of clothing. But, she could not speak a word of English, her daughter could barely put two English words together and the Manager did not speak Spanish.
So, it took over 20 minutes to get this lady to understand what she was needing to do for a refund. Now, being in America you would of thought if she learned English she could carry out a normal life. She isn't in Mexico any more. And, how do I know she wasn't not here on holiday?..... she had a store charge card! |

Depends on your reason why, but generally no. Its useful to know another language, but not manditory. Unless its going to bring down your g.p.a, then ya might have to bite the bullet. Then again, most schools offer french or something too. But honestly, i wouldnt want to learn anyways. We speak english where i come from ;-) |

Yes. A person should want to learn everything he can. |

Absolutely not! I refuse to learn Spanish. I have no desire in my being to learn that language. The reason: Because I'm expected to change my ways to suit the illegal immigrants in this country. I simply won't do that. I won't learn Spanish because illegals think I should, I would learn Spanish if I WANTED to, which I don't. |

Of course not. Why would you even think that. |

NO, you aren't wrong for not wanting to learn it.
You may be eliminating some job opportunities by not learning it, or, missing out on promotions, but, it is entirely your choice. |

I agree with #2. You shouldn't have to learn spanish just to accomodate those who refuse to learn. I do believe there should be bilingual people for the same reason others learn Chinese or Russian. You have more opportunities as a dual (or tri) speaker. There are the people here who are learing English and still need the assistance of a translator to say the things they haven't learned. But no, you're not wrong. You are well within your rights to never learn another language. |

No you're not, I refuse to learn it myself. |

I am from Miami or North Cuba as I like to call it, I do not speak a drop of spanish and proud of it! My husband who is Mexican supports my decision to not learn spanish, he feels like I do that if you live here you should speak english. I get so mad at people who have lived here for 10 years and refuse to learn english (believe me he has them in his family) I tell the ones who can understand english that what the non english speaking party is doing would be equivalent to me moving to Mexico and saying "I am here now so speak English" Needless to say we are estranged from his side of the family....the point is that we as Americans have to start standing up together and yelling we are not going to take it. To move to another country like France you have to show that you know the culture and are willing to learn the language, we should do that here. But I do feel there are some things you should know in spanish:
1. ahora hable inglés usted idiota usted vivo en América
(speak english you idiot you live in America now)
2. si usted no desea aprender los ingleses entonces van de nuevo a su paĂs
(if you do not want to learn english then go back to your country)
3. No aprenderé que el español apenas porque usted está aquà esto es reparto de América con él
(I will not learn spanish just because you are here deal with it)
4. Llamaré el INS en su asno
(I will call INS on your @ss) |

You shouldn't have to learn to speak a foreign language to accommodate immigrants who have no interest in learning yours. You should learn a foreign language because you want to and are interested in it. |

Not at all. There's other languages you could learn. |

Bruce M's answer is so funny but true. Although I know he was using sarcasm... illegals really act as though they don't understand English when we say "Go Home"!!! LOL |
