This is more complicated than the media portray it. Let me see if I can say a few things that most people aren't quite aware of.

The USA needs cheap labor in order to stay competitive. Free trade has come back to bite the USA in the rear. Other countries can produce goods (and services) at less cost. The USA has removed many trade barriers (in the name of 'free trade') that used to protect its citizens from disparate international labor conditions.

Mexico has too many people for the goods and services it produces. Conveniently, there is a country not to far away that have a labor deficit for a certain kind of labor (namely the manual, low-paying kind). Mexico thereby benefits heavily from this: 1) they get some of their surplus people siphoned off to another country, lightening its social welfare burden, and 2) those that leave send dollars back to Mexico, which replenishes the local economy.

The USA doesn't really wish to stop immigrants coming in from Mexico. Nor does Mexico wish to stop their emigration.

If the USA was smart, it would drop the whole 'free trade' charade and start instituting trade barriers that made its own goods more competitive abroad. Then it would put in place economic disinsentives against Mexico and its liberal emigration policy. (Carrot and stick diplomacy would be brilliant here)

If Mexico were smart, it would massively curb its internal corruption and put the saved dollars into the local economy, thereby recouping its native labor force and turn into an economic powerhouse. It could put economic disinsentives in place to curb emigration.

Alas, neither country is run by people who are all that smart. And the charade will continue, no doubt.

The issue is that the U.S. is not rebuilding other countries. What the U.S. does is make sure that their interests are safe and that Latin American countries are burried in depth so they can not breathe and compete with them in the market. Is all about power. Try to see the big picture.

Yes, you are wrong. Did you know that America stole land from Mexico during the 19th century? California and New Mexico, as well as other western states, were part of Mexico. Plus, it is a little more complicated than that. Most countries that progress or are economically very well developed like the States, have invaded or stolen or exploited from other countries in the past. Currently, they're stealing oil from Iraq and taking over Afghanistan. The UK for example, has invaded or tried to invade almost all over the world, from Africa, to Latin America (where they received buckets full of hot oil from the locals during the invasions in Argentina in the 1800s), to all over Asia. These countries have built up their wealth by sacking other countries. It has been done all over Latin America. In Bolivia, for example, during the 1800s, all the gold in the Potosi mountain was exploited by foreginers through violence. That is why there are such poor countries and such rich ones. The rich ones take over the poor ones.

Well, I'm not sure how far Winston is from Greensboro, but if the jobs were in Greensboro, and Winston was too far, then yes, people WOULD leave to go to Greensboro. Our country is partly founded on that. People didn't westward expand for fun or for the hell of it. It was DANGEROUS to do it. You could die in the wild, or be killed by indians. They did it for the opportunity available. The US expanded west because there was money, there were better jobs. Hell, we stole California from Mexico!

How can you blame them for wanting to come here? Yes, it's a problem, but it's also a bit of a compliment. You're talking about Mexico, a country where drug cartels rule (a wee bit dangerous), where for protection, regular people invest in armored cars, and where workers make pennies a DAY.

They come here for opportunity. Which is what our country was founded on. Why do we always complain about the Mexicans? Dont we have many other people coming to our country every year? Indians, Africans, Asians? Mexicans are willing to do crap jobs that many Americans are too stuck up to do.

Besides, what about our nothern border? Why not secure that? I mean, after all, the 9/11 hijackers came through that border. Are we going to build a wall there, too? Where does it end?

By the way, gas price doesn't necessarily indicate that the economy is bad. Unemployment is actually not all that high. We have plenty of gas. It's just the we don't have the refining capabilties to get *** much out here as we need.

How on earth would just giving money to Mexico stop them from coming here? It's not like that money would go directly into the poor class' pockets. It'll get tied up in red tape and bureacracy. And who will suffer? The same people that always do. The poor. Can you blame them for wanting to come here? No.

I'm not disagreeing that there's a problem, but I think you're simplifying a problem that is multi-facited and complex.
