You can beg people for money or if you go stand by Home Depot you can get someone to hire you for work. If you choose to beg, make sure you take you kids with you so people will feel sorry for them.

If you are a foreigner in the UK with your family, you could approach Social Services for help. If you are from Poland, Romania, etc, they would provide emergency accommodation for the children, and arrange travel back to your country. Otherwise, the only help will be from charities like the Red Cross.

If you are allowed to work and plan to stay on, you need to get yourself to as many employment agencies as possible, with a CV if possible (a written account of your skills and experience).

You might need to consider sending your family back home and staying here on your own to work, so you can send money back to them. It may be easier for you to get work if you can move without having to accommodate your family.

each state has work force servcies and welfare offices have you applied there?

then i would contact the local housing authories it could take a 1 yr or more to apply for low income housing.

i take it your an immg who sponsored you to come here?

If you are religious, you can go to your church. Often they have emergency assistance for their members, and if they don't they will connect you with someone that can help.
