American culture is not the way for me, how can a US citizen permanently move to another country?
Find answers to your legal question.

American culture is not the way for me, how can a US citizen permanently move to another country?

Please don't take offense when I say that American culture isn't for me. It may be the best country for someone else, but I feel like another country would be the best country for me... it's all subjective. I actually lived abroad for a year, and now I'm back in the states and so miserable, the culture here just crushes my soul.
Right now, I'm studyign to teach English overseas, but the problem is where to find work?
In a few months, I'm going to Spain, but I'm only going there to study. I'm scared that I'm going to fall in love with Spain, and not want to leave.
I've read that it's next to impossible for an American citizen to get a teaching job in Spain, and I don't have any European relatives, so getting papers that way is not an option. I would like to know if anyone has any information that can help me? How can an American citizen find legal work there, as an English teacher? (I realize that if you have parents or grandparents from Europe, that can help you but that doesn't apply to me :-( )
I just know in my heart that I would be happier in a latin country. I am really missing Mexico and thinking of returning there to look for work when I finish school... but that could change if I go to Spain and fall in love with it.
I just don't belong in USA! Anyone else sick of being here?

Additional Details
I knew there would be nasty comments... but I don't hate Americans, there are good people, and bad people all over.
I'm just saying, that the "best" country is subjective, because everyone's heart is so different. Another country would be better for me, because my heart is elsewhere.
American culture just isn't for ME! If you like it here... I'm cool with that. People are inevitable going to say stuff like,"Get out, we don't want you here anyway" and this is the kind of ignorance that bothers me.

Why don't you come to Brazil?
At SĂŁo Paulo and BrasĂlia downtow, you may find a nice work as an English teacher, easily!

We don't hate the color of the skin of any person; we "see" the inside, the best that she/he has to offer, to instruct!

I don't think it a matter of the American culture, as much as a young person that really hasn't made up the mind what to do with their life. My Uncle's oldest daughter was involved with teaching and real estate somewhere in Spain for a number of years, she's back in the States for good now since she is getting older and has no one in Spain that could really help her if need be. (private affairs)
Yahoo can help, but you need to contact Americans living in those areas that you point out, to see what their input is.

I'm not sure where to find one, but I would suggest applying for citizenship, in whichever country you would like, by going to their Embassy.

Of course, you might try just going down to Mexico, or any Central or South American country you'd like. They are known for just accepting people into the country. If they would take Nazis hiding out from Allied forces after World War II, I'm sure they would take you; especially since you offer a skill many of them want (teaching English).

Then you can apply directly for citizenship in whichever department handles that kind of thing in their Capitals.

Become a citizen of another country....?

I mean isn't it obvious..

Im sick of it too. Im moving to Thailand. I spent many months there and I loved how nice and warm the people were. Never noticed how much I dislike USA until I came back. Im miserable here now too. The only way I know of is to make money on the internet. Check out keafy.com for some ideas (not spam, real ideas and free and no signing up for anything and none of that, just ideas). Im not familiar with spain but as far as Thailand and many other countries I have looked at, permanent visas are a problem. Many countries will allow you to stay in them but you have to leave every 3 months, go to a different country, and then return by getting your passport stamped. I will have to travel to Malaysia every 3 months and return in order to stay in Thailand. But its not that bad because since everythings so cheap, a 12 hour train ride once every 3 months will only cost me $15. Becoming a citizen or permanent resident seems impossible. After 9/11 USA made all these strict rules for foreigners, so other countries followed suit. If getting a job is your only problem, then make money on the internet. start a business. If its a cheaper country, you should be able to do that. I only have to make $500 a month to live comfortably in Thailand on the beach and thats definately possible on the internet.

If you love america, thats your opinion. But I have to point out that 99% of people who say they love it are morons and have never traveled outside of it. They think they are the only free country on earth, but the economist put out this list
http://conservationfinance.wordpress.com/2006/11/23/top-10-democracies/
which clearly shows there are 16 countries rated as being more free than USA. How can you say you love cake the best if you have never had ice cream? Thats called Ignorance. Thats exactly why I hate USA. Very few open minded people. Most are just very sheltered and get all their knowledge of the outside world from Fox News. Do I prefer USA over places like China and East Timor? You bet I do...but its not my favorite place and everybody has their opinions. The 1% of people who say they love it and have actually traveled outside of it get credit and Im not putting them down...but the other segment of people who would criticize someone for wanting to move or for living somewhere else without trying it first themselves are the ones I really hate. I dont hate as much when Im over there.

There are foreigners migrating to every country, not just USA...but because some morons only see people entering their house, they think that their house is the only place people try to live in. They think that everybody in the world wants to live in their house, because they have never been in the neighbors house to see how many people are moving in there too.

I like it here, but it's not for everyone. I've been to some Latin countries, and I prefer it here. I don't know how to obtain citizenship overseas. Good luck.

No I don't. And for the person who said they don't like living here because threat of nuclear war, hello the nuclear war will kill off everything. You won't die in the explosion, but the aftermath will kill you.

I with you. I am going to return to Mexico as well if I don't either get into med school or make it in the NFL. The USA is great, but as you said the culture is simply not for me.

I never knew spain to have a difficult system to become citizenship though, I think the hard one to get into is France.

E-mail me if you want to talk, I know most people start yelling and hollering if you so much as mention you like another country better that the US.

People move its OK if u feel that way, even I'd say "whats wrong living in USA? USA seems to be an OK country."

Moving to any EU country is not that easy, since I can only explain procedures about EU countries I can tell u that its not an easy task. If u want to make ur home in Spain, its possible but not that easy. U need to find a permanent job & ur prospective employer has to apply for work permit on ur behalf. Its usually difficult to get work permit extending or renewing it is not a big deal, so if work permit is issued u need to say in Spain for 5 years to get Permanent Resident. After u are permanent resident for 3 years you can apply for Spanish citizenship (U must have to pass language & cultural test). Same rule applies to all EU countries only difference is some want a person to live for 5 years before he/she can apply for citizenship. But again u may not be needing citizenship PR may be sufficient for.

The diffrence between PR & citizenship is that once u have EU citizenship u can move to live anywhere in EU (any country) but with only PR u are stuck to the country u have PR for.

Good luck.

If you do fall in love with Spain try hard to find a place to work you can also let them believe that you are british. The other thing you can do is get married to some one that is from spain. the Green card thing is not a good idea. I think that is is good idea to think of Mexico as your next destination that way you can still love Spain but look forward to Mexico and you will not be so heart broken .

harry k
It won't be easy. There are very few countries on the planet that are as welcoming as the US. While the US welcomes people from many different cultures and many different countries, this is not the same elsewhere.

If you so love the Latin culture, you are extremely lucky to be a citizen of the US. I suggest you move to Puerto Rico. It's part of the US and culturally Latin.

virgina99
Michelle Obama is with you.
There are people walking towards the USA right now from every corner of the world. You Know Why?
Because there is no place like the USA.
Do you remember why you left Mexico? Go back to Mexico if you don't remember.
Do you know anything about Spain? Do some research see what you find. The first few months of my arrival to the USA I was very depressed and really missed my country. As soon as I started to have some fun I forgot all about it.
Now I'm proud to be an American. This country has so much to offer to those who want to succeed I'm on overdrive now, and I wouldn't change it for any other. I would like to visit Spain my grandparents where from there. Try moving to a different city sometimes that is all you need.

jess
I commend you for leaving, i wish more people that do not enjoy America's way of life would. Good Luck and Don't let the door kick you in @ss on the way out.

Yeah me too, and what makes me hate living here the most is the threat of a nuclear war with Russia which seems like its going to happen sooner or later right now.

Well considering half of Mexico is trying to get across our border I think they'll probably let you in without too much of a fuss. I'm not really sure about Spain, but I guess beggars can't be choosers right? Adios, buena suerte!
