what are the american immigration laws for partnership? do u need to be married, for how long and if u get married do u still have to deal with immi paper work or is it done automaticly? is it a problem if u've been married before and just had a divorse recently?
PS: my granddad on my mothers side was american but he left my granma before i was born, so that might be to weak for immi?

Obviously as usual the American community doesn't know sh** about immigration
If you are here illegally and came before I think 2001 or came with a visa you have to prove your marriage is real (ie photos, kds, family videos, interviews w/ family, friends, and neighbor's) then, you will get a temp visa in about 3 months, about 6 months later you get a temporary residency, and I think it is 2-5 years after that as long as you are still married to the same person you get your permanent residency
But, if you are here illegally and came illegally after 2001, don't do anything all you will be doing is saying here I am come and get me. Wait until the reform happens later this year.

American law recognises hetero marriage and nothing else.
If you get married outside the US then you can go through the K2 (?) visa process and get a visa in about 9 months. Spouse won't be able to work until after 2 years of marriage. Alternatively, plan on getting married in the US and you can apply for a K1 visa (?). Takes about 9 months to be issued. Once partner arrives in the US you have 90 days to marry. Then apply for change of status. That takes about six months and spouse can work during that time. Once changed to conditional residence you apply for removal of conditions at the end of 12 months. Green card is issued at that point. Citizenship is available after another 4 years. |

Marry an American and you will get a Green Card (permanent residency). I think it takes awhile (6 months or a year), but this is the simplest way. |
