American in Northern Ireland seeking irish citizenship?

American in Northern Ireland seeking irish citizenship?

Hello, I have been dating a woman from Northern Ireland for 2 years now, we have flown back and forth from the states and to ireland, but she lives and holds a full time job there. She is from the nationalist community so obviously has irish citizenship. I was wondering, if I move to northern Ireland does the good friday / Belfast agreement entitle me to also apply for irish citizenship although technically living in UK territory.
By the way I do not wish to cause offence of the question asked, I myself have no religious affiliation and am only seeking advice on grounds of my partner's background.
Any advice or knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

You would need to be married to her in order to be eligible in the first place, even if you were married you would still need to be living in the Republic of Ireland to be considered for citizenship through naturalisation but I'd advise you to speak to a solicitor specialising in Irish nationality law, even the rules around granting citizenship to residents in Northern Ireland has changed recently.

Firstly you have to be living in the Republic of Ireland to apply for Irish citizenship. Yet your girlfriend can have both British and Irish citizenship. When she got her passport I bet she produce her birth certificate. The only way you can get Irish citizenship is one if one of your parents is Irish or grandparents was born in Ireland. If this is the case you would have to produce their birth certificate if dead death certificate. Your visa was given to you by the British when you entered the UK which Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Not possible you need a visa to visits the Republic and then seek about applying for Irish citizenship.

P.S the good friday aggrement has nothing to do with citizenship
