Yes, I personally believe America to be the greatest country in the world. In spite of our shortcomings, we enjoy freedoms and opportunities that no other country has.
My advice is to enjoy your time here, experience as much of America as you can, then at the end of the 6 months you'll be fully equipped to decide if you want to stay.
By the way, welcome in advance. |

America is the best country in the world. You may have a handicap. Being Iranian, you might experience bigotry and hatred.
Santa Barbara is not a normal US city. There are way too many liberals there. |

America is the best country in the world partner! Just be careful when you go to California. There are some parts that are infested with nothing but illegals! |

America IS the best country in the world. However, to live the American life, you MUST obey ALL laws, gain citizenship the LEGAL way and work to support you and your family if you have any. The cons about America is the Justice system. Other than that it's an awsome country! |

Yes,
If you come to America in friendship and Peace and obey the laws of our country then WELCOME.
I do believe that America is the best place to live in the world simply because We The People choose our leaders..... (Smile) Sometimes good and other times not so good. But at least we can change our leadership, we are not stuck with them for a lifetime...(Except for Ted Kennedy)..
As for California, Well ....Lets just say those folks are different out there.... See the rest of the country (Texas) before making your final decision. Here in Texas we don't let murderers and pedophiles loose no matter who they are.
I think you will enjoy the freedom that America provides. We are not perfect but we try. |

I think that America is the most wonderful place on the face of the Earth and I hope you will come to feel that way too. |

While you're here, make sure you take a look around outside of Santa Barbara. UCSB is a different sort of place. You're gonna have a lot of fun there, but just make sure you see some of the rest of the country before you make up your mind. |

America is an excellent country, and we need more educated immigrants like yourself.
Youll find that the people are quite friendly, unless you turn out to be part of the freeloader demographic. |

You only have a scholarship for 6 months. What makes you think you can stay here? It is the land of the free and we fight for what is right and our wants. |

Well you will be going to school in a beautiful part of the country. I used to spend my summer vacations up there with my sisiter and her husband. He taught chemistry at UCSB.
You are free to be yourself in the USA.You can find out who you are without custom and family telling you what to do.
that is what my husband loves about America. He left Hungary when it was a communist country and loved living in the USA. |

America is the best country because of:
1 - Liberty
2 - Federalism
3 - Rule of Law
4 - An insight offered by the Frenchman Marbois when discussing the price for the Louisiana Purchase (paraphrasing): "Think about what you are buying...you are not just buying land, you are buying no neighbors...no disputes."
These things make our *government* the best...people are no different anywhere.

No. there are some other pretty good places around, or just as good. Travel around. I like it here and it's better than other places but there's still room to improve. I'd try to give universal health care for instance so people in low paying jobs, I'm talking legal here, children and elderly don't have to choose between eating or getting their meds. Also, I'd improve on the time off people can get. In Europe people can get up to 5 weeks paid off a year and I wouldn't call them lazy or incompetent. They've just found the way to enjoy life as well and have time to be with their families and friends and travel and get to know the world.
I'd definitively improve maternity leave, add paternity leave and find a way to help with daycare costs.
Schools need a lot of work too.
It's a good place but there's definitively room for improvement. American people, let's pull together and make this an even better place!!! |

Coming on a student visa won't enable you to stay in the country. You would have to apply. Well there are pros and cons living in the US to many on both sides to mention.
Since 9/11 it might be a bit more difficult for someone of your nationality in this country. It doesn't make it right but it is what human nature is.
When you come as a student you might encounter this. Getting upset will only cause you more grief.
I would also highly suggest you take some American history/ cultural classes. If you plan on staying here more you know about our country easier it will make assimilating and understand our thinking.
I personally like Iranians ie Persian I have been to a number of luncheon parties with Iranians from the Ex Shah regime.
Very delightful and fascinating. |

As an American citizen I beleive that with all its shortcomings we are the best nation on earth because we have the most freedom. We have room for improvment and in my mind it would be a return to our true constitutional republic, and away from the mob rule of "democracy." Some of the cons of America are the Internal Revenue Service, our lack of enforcement of our immigration laws. our monetary system dominated by the Federal Reserve Board. If you are a Muslim, and I assume you are, you should disavow the concecpt that all non-Muslims are infidels and deserving of death or you will never be a good citizen here. If you are willing to support and uphold our constitution you should be welcome here. If you are going to continue allegeince to something other than the United States I would suggest that you seek another country to reside in. |

I haven't lived in any other country to give an unbiased opinion but I love my country. It's not perfect but no place is. Right now we're dealing with some issues and in certain areas it's not as nice as it used to be. Some aren't even a reflection of America at all anymore. Even with it's problems....it's a great country. |

I have only ever lived in America, so of course, my view is biased. I think America is the best country for me and my family. And being in the hospitality industry, I work with people who are in the USA from over 22 other countries. Some decide to stay here permanently while others go back to their country of origin after a few years here. Only you will know what is right for you. I have personally traveled to Canada, Mexico, England, Russia, Poland and Hungary. While I enjoyed my time in each of those countries, I still considered America my HOME. They say that home is where your heart is. If you find your heart is here, by all means stay, but if you find your heart is still in Iran, then go back after your scholarship is over. But international travel will always broaden your perspective and your horizons.
America is a great place to live, and I hope you have safe travels and a wonderful experience here. Best of luck to you! |

Absolutely. Hands-down. It is the ONLY country that still has freedoms left in the world. This is why we're so vulnerable to the strings that are starting to constrain us. |

Why on earth would an Iranian want to come to the US ???
Here,I think you know NOTHING about your own country's history.
READ THIS !!!!!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat
In 1953 the US destroyed YOUR democratically elected government and ENDED freedom/democracy and liberty for YOUR PEOPLE .
The US and Britain did this PURELY TO CONTROL YOUR OIL EXACTLY WHAT THEY HAVE DONE IN IRAQ.
The US then put their puppet friend and VILE DICTATOR the Shah of Iran in power and maintained him in power economically, politically and militarily until at last the Iranians kicked the US out in 1979.
From 1953 to 1979,this ruthless comrade of the US killed and tortured any and all Iranians who dared try and resurrect their DEMOCRACY FREEDOM AND LIBERTY .
The US has screwed your country over and over and over with outrageous atrocities and YOU are coming to the US ??
Why are you coming ? MONEY GREED ??
Considering that Americans would simply carpet bomb out of existence any country that would dare commit the atrocities against them that they have committed against others ,I find you attitude somewhat UN-PATRIOTIC FOR AN IRANIAN.
Look ,I realize we should forgive and forget like our Christ taught us but the world knows that Americans, eventhough they wear their Christianity on their sleeves ,are simply monumental hypocrites who like BUSH ,use and abuse God/Christ for their own NATIONAL INTERESTS.
If this is a country you want to be a part of ,go for it .
BTW,this is what YOU will face when you come to this nice little Christian country where Christ'S LOVE FORGIVENESS DOES NOT EXIST .

Yes, it is. The only problem that stands out prominetly with this country is our current leadership of our federal government, which will be fixed in November of 2008. |

It was and it will be again as soon as we get rid of the megalomaniac that stole his way into the whitehouse.
If you choose to stay here, fine but remember if you reject your former home for this one, don't try to make this place like from where you came. |

When it's not being run into the ground by a chimp and a 600 lb. gorilla in the White House, it's definitely the best! |
