Americans, can you say you are doing better BECAUSE of immigrants?

Absolutely NOT, to the contrary. Everything that America is about and has worked for is being undermined and destroyed by this concept. Why did we fight so hard to stop sweatshops, establish unions. And when we say "immigrants" why don't we just say "mexicans", that's what we're talking about. What's good about reversing wages 20 years backwards? If you're going to embrace a culture, why not one that has done something. Mexico has Never done anything for anyone, including themselves!! Or perhaps I have that wrong,,, I may be forgetting
about their contributions to the medical and scientific community. Or the past exploration efforts to the south pole, as well as their cure for polio, and the invention of flight.Where would you like me to stop, could go on for years. I think they invented the internet too. Hell they couldn't invent duct-tape. At one time a couple of years ago, Colorado's official webpage listed their contributions to America as wall-art ( where i grew up we called it grafiti), mexican food and Low-rider culture, how pathetic is that? they are no longer just picking fruit in America, they're picking the Fruits of America! And when it comes to agriculture, and the need for labor, ask yourself how many millions of Americans are sitting behind bars for non-violent crimes that could use something to do?? How about using Worldcom and Enron officers to go pick a little fruit? Stupid white-bread America,, you had better pull your heads out of your tails and be damn careful what you ask for......a racist??? no, try a realist!!

Because of the legal immigrants I'm doing better and I like working with them and welcome them. To the illegal ones, you are doing me and your fellow legal Mexicans a great disservice. You are costing me a lot of money in having to pay out for you being here but you aren't giving anything back. Your work isn't giving us anything back cause you've taken a job that an American needed who would be paying in taxes and Social Security. You come here and break out laws, you thumb your nose at our goverment and you need to go back and come in legally.

Legal immigrants are the backbone of this country. It is they that helped us expand and grow. Illegal immigrants are a drain on our society. They do not pay taxes, use our services, and then return to their country without adding anything beneficial to this country. There is a reason for the dislike of parasitic individuals just as there is a reason why we do honor those that contribute.

Yes. Immigrants who came to this country LEGALLY for the most part have had a positive effect on our country. The ILLEGALS are a different story. Just pay a visit to Mexifornia and see for yourself.

Weather people want to admit it or not. Immigrant are actually helping pur economy, by the srtock and demand.

But the fact that I do see ( not just immigrants, a lot of trailer trash americans too) single parents making enough to get by on their own but at the same time are signed up for 3 different government funding programs.
That is taking advantage of our system, wich is making us LOSE money.
The reason so many are wining, is becuse thery are lazy americans that got replaced in their job by a hard working mexican. They are pissed at the fact that mexicans work harder, and thy sit behind a desk in corperate america, complaining.

Well, President Kennedy was reasonably good and he was a descendant of immigrants and there are a whole string of discoveries by scientists who were immigrants, Einstein being perhaps the most prominent.

There are 2 sides to the debate though...

The majority of immigrants are hardworking honest people who want a better life, just like America's founders did. Immigrants work in jobs that delicate "entitled" Americans don't want. (Including myself) How many of you would want to carry a 100 lb apple bag on your back all day or gut fish for 10 hours? What about spreading horse crap in a field?

In previous answers I read about mooching immigrants not paying taxes. NOT true for all immigrants! There are some yes and I agree with you on that one. They should have to pay just like the rest of us. Also the women who come to the united states and have 5 or 6 americans kids just to get welfare and at the same time work under the table. That's WRONG. Also people who are undocumented and commiting crimes against Americans, raping stealing, killing... They also deserve to be imprisoned IN THERE OWN COUNTRY. Americans shouldn't pay to imprison these people! But there are 2 sides to this debate...

My husband is an immigrant. He was here illegally at 14 working 10 to 12 hour days. I met him at Mcdonalds where I was "slaving" 4 hours a day. He worked harder at 14 than I do at 27. Surprise! He paid an astounding amount in income, social security and medicare tax that he will never be able to recover! I am talking tens of thousands of dollars. That money will benefit our country not hinder it. 13 Years later he is just as hard working. He worked for his legal status here, he didn't get it by marrying an American. As a matter of fact he waited to even propose until he was granted legal residency. He felt I might think he wanted to marry an American for his green card!

America is a country of immigrants. If my french canadian grandmother and had never come here and married my native american grandfather, I wouldn't be here. Neither would my children. I believe Immigrants help us all. Some people just don't want to admit it. For all of you who are unable to see BOTH sides of the picture, open your eyes and take a real look around you. How many immigrants do you see on the streets asking for change? Taking the easy way out instead of getting a job? Hmm... that's a good question.
For those of you who feel immigrants take jobs from hard working Americans, I would advise them to apply at the apple, pear, cherry or orange orchards or the Berry Fields. I know! Farm owners are always looking for cucumber pickers! Or fish processing plants they have a really high turn over rate... If they aren't interested in those types of work... then immigrants aren't really taking the jobs from them are they?????

Unless you are indigenous to the Americas, you're an immigrant, or your forefathers were. Of course it's better! With so many divergent cultures, how could we not be better? We get the cast-offs of the rest of the world, the Einsteins, the von-Brauns, The Oppenheimers, etc.
