A close friend of mine is being sworn in as a US citizen this week and I'm looking for gift ideas. Thanks.

How about the following:

Taking a picture of the person when they are getting their certificate of naturalization and framing it nicely. Maybe see if they do it against a backdrop of the US flag and related. Choose a nice frame for the photo, and maybe pen some kind nice message. This will be memorable for that person.

see if you can find a Constitution in a leather or some gift setting. i think it is useful, interesting, and matches the event....

Well, I don't know if you can get it in a week, but maybe a copy of the letter you sent requesting it....

If you write your senator, on their web page there will be a link for 'constituent services' and you can order a flag that will be flown over the capital and will be sent with a letter stating it was so flown, signed by your rep (or his/her automatic signature machine). It's a nice thing and you can order them in different sizes.
