Anyone else know what it's like to fall in love with an illegal alien?

I do. Only I was legally working in the UK on a 6 month visa. I fell in love with a boy my 2nd month there, and spent the rest of the time debating over my options. As an American, I had no choice but to stay there illegally or come home, and through a tearful goodbye, returned to the US last month. During my relationship I struggled knowing it had an expiration date, and so did my boyfriend. But eventually you learn that all you can do is keep breathing and enjoy the time you have.

Things have a weird way of working out. You need to trust in your relationship and the feelings you have towards each other and take each day at a time.

Worrying about the future does nothing but stress you out. Come up with a worst-case scenerio plan. A phone number/email address/screenname that you can always reach each other on so that if the worst happens, you will be able to communicate and work something out.

Since I left, my boyfriend and I email everyday and talk on the phone when we can. Yesterday I stumbled across a job offer in England dealing with my profession that I plan on investigating. I trust that what is supposed to happen, will. I wish you the best.

I cannot sympathize either because I don't get involved with people that don't respect other nations laws because generally they have low morals and don't respect other people that much.

He is using you. Turn him in and get him deported back to where he belongs. If he loves you he will go through the process of LEGALLY becoming a citizen.

Are you willing to go with him back to his home country? If not, you know there is no future for you both. This relationship is going to be tough, and you know this already.

sympathize, no way. I think too much of myself to ever let that happen. besides I do not break the law by aiding and abetting illegals in any form. You are right about one thing, he will not be here forever. he will be caught and deported sooner or later. And you can be charged with aiding and abetting an illegal which is 5 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. I know people who have given illegals rides and had their cars confiscated. Can you live looking over your shoulder constantly.

Any person who . . . encourages or induces an alien to . . . reside . . . knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such . . . residence is . . . in violation of law, shall be punished as provided . . . for each alien in respect to whom such a violation occurs . . . fined under title 18 . . . imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both."

Section 274 felonies under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act, INA 274A(a)(1)(A):

A person (including a group of persons, business, organization, or local government) commits a federal felony when she or he:

* assists an alien s/he should reasonably know is illegally in the U.S. or who lacks employment authorization, by transporting, sheltering, or assisting him or her to obtain employment, or

* encourages that alien to remain in the U.S. by referring him or her to an employer or by acting as employer or agent for an employer in any way, or

* knowingly assists illegal aliens due to personal convictions.

Penalties upon conviction include criminal fines, imprisonment, and forfeiture of vehicles and real property used to commit the crime. Anyone employing or contracting with an illegal alien without verifying his or her work authorization status is guilty of a misdemeanor. Aliens and employers violating immigration laws are subject to arrest, detention, and seizure of their vehicles or property. In addition, individuals or entities who engage in racketeering enterprises that commit (or conspire to commit) immigration-related felonies are subject to private civil suits for treble damages and injunctive relief.

as far as i am concerned? i pride myself enough to know better than to get into intricate situation,especially this one,you are into it.
I am an adult and behave as such.I have worked hard in my life,and certainly not to waist all my efforts on some unlawful individual.

I can definitely sympathize with love and I'm sorry you have to feel that way. However...

I live in Texas (don't take this as a stereotypical Texan who "hates" everyone or whatever - I'm actually very liberal), but I really can't stand all the illegal aliens constantly here. I go into an American grocery store and half the things there are in Spanish because they can't learn our language. People think they take jobs that no one wants, but in reality, lots of people do want them for a decent amount, and then they lose them to illegal immigrants who will work for a lot less. That isn't fair. Not to mention coming over illegaly they can bring diseases. There are so many reasons I'm against immigration. Maybe your boyfriend should be educated on someone else's point of view, and become a citizen. I understand Mexico is bad, but if everyone comes over here, it's going to make America bad too. Does he know that?

I know it's harsh. I hope he can become a citizen so you guys can stay together. I know how much love means :)

A friend of mine has a similar story, she's in love with an illegal immigrant.

I can sympathize. Who you love is who you love, and although I'm not a huge fan of illegal immigration, some people just need to or had no control over it and usually do contribute to our work force and culture. The legalization should be made a bit easier, I think.

We may gripe about illegal immigrants from Mexico, for example, but a lot of them are doing the work that Americans don't always do. This is actually in some ways bad because they are often exploited, but even exploitation is sometimes better than what life they had at home. Granted, that doesn't mean the solution to the world's problems is illegal immigration, of course, but you can't blame people for wanting to provide for their family. Especially when we consume so much and others so little. Just as an example, we bicker at China for pollution, and yet we use more plastic bags in the US than all other countries combined. We pay third world countries to take our garbage.
