Almost everyone claims to be against illegal immigration, but the claim is meaningless. Everyone is in favor of a better educational system, improved health care, security against Islamic terrorism, and saving Social Security, too. The question is, "What are they willing to do about it?"
And any answer to that question will involve some tradeoffs, in terms of personal privacy, expense, the possible encouragement of discrimination against Hispanics who are here legally, the possible increases in prices of goods that are produced largely by illegal immigrant laborers who are willing to work for less pay than native-born or naturalized U S citizens will, and plenty of other things that don't come to mind at the moment. So the real question for each individual is, "What are you willing to sacrifice in order to make a serious dent in the illegal immigration problem?" The illegal immigration "hawks" are willing to sacrifice a lot, and the illegal immigration "doves" are hardly willing to sacrifice anything. |

You probably want to say "are most white folk against illegal immigration " am I right ??
Seems all of the racists out there believe that when the word American appears in a immigration question - the white middle aged man suddenly appears. |

Undocumented Immigration is a non-issue in this election, All three front runners have backed Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
All of you antis are out of step with your Republican party,
The Real voters "have spoken "and all that is left to do is to yell and let off, stream. |

No. If they were that against it they would have supported Romney, Hunter and Tancredo. The pitiful racists running on a single agenda are no longer in the news. America HAS spoken. |

250 million americans are the children of immigrants that came without a visa...The only natives here are the Native Americans. |

no it doesnt seem that way does it. what they need to do is get all our troops out of iraq and line them up along the mexican border and straighten out our country! its really frustrating when you live in an area like southern texas! im starting to feel like a minority over here...and i cant understand what people say, they cant understand what im saying, you have to flip boxes around at the stores to try and find the side that is english! half the street signs are in spanish! what are they going to do when a terrorist comes through the mexican border and blows something up? will they do something about it then? |

YEA!! Even LEGAL immigrants are against it! They believe that everyone should have to go through what they did to become a citizen! I agree with them! |

The reason they are against it is, Hard working Americans work and pay taxes which go towards the government and funds such as Medicare and Illegal Immigrants dont pay taxes, and they come illegally and there are others that are waiting in line to come here legally. The other issue is the more racially inclined America is worried that they are taking their jobs, and work below minimum wage and contractors are willing to hire them since they can pay them less, and under the table. |

Yes. But it costs our tax dollars to deport them. How many tickets and lawyer fees can our national budget afford with a war to pay for?
Consider it a war on the home front. No one can fight on 2 fronts very well, can they? |

I think it is split. There are people who are upset that they can get in to the U.S., but there are those that love to employ them for cheap, but I really do think it is split almost 50/50, MAYBE favoring those who are against it. |

Obama McCain and Obama were not chosen by the voters to be front runners they just decided to run for the office of president, to answer your question yes over 75% of legal Americans are against illegal immigration they see it for the threat that it is to the fabric of our democracy. If most people would vote on the issue and the politicans actually did listen to the will of the people then Ron Paul is the only candidate that speaks on this issue as most of america does |

I would say that a majority of americans are against illegal immigration. But not everyone airs their views in public. It is really and explosive issue right now and can cause some serious arguments. So some people just decide to let their voting do the talking instead of taking on the issues face to face with another person. |

they were NOT chosen by voters how old are you ? they are chosen by there party cabinet members if you notice the most loved candidate's were removed out of the race cause there views were not accepted by the republican/democrat party but were loved by the American people you see, the party cabinet decides which candidate will represent that party and then are presented to the American people it does not matter what the American people want or decide any more and has not mattered since JFK we are given a select choice and then we get to pick from there some say we don't even really get to pick from there |

Against the people or against them coming here illegally?
Liberals seem to think we should have open borders & that we shouldn't use the words "illegal alien." Some liberals have even acted like calling them illegal is the same as calling a black man a ni@@er!
Most conservatives are opposed to illegal immigration. Where McCain appears soft on the issue is what to do with the ones already here. He has stated that he thinks we should seal the border.
The candidates are afraid of looking bigotted for picking on these poor minorities.
And some are afraid to lose money from business that use many illegal immigrants. |

most people don't have a problem with legal immigration process. if done the correct way, then hey, welcome aboard! you play the game according to the rules no problems with us. the problem with the presidental candidates is that all they want is a simple way for illegals here to stay here. i have a problem with that as do most people. you break the rules and are rewarded. that's not right. reform is needed or should i say, enforcement and punishment of current laws need to be addressed. who can do this? i don't know.
stan- there is not a chance in hell that i'm giving up ANY of my civil liberties. you start giving one and the next thing you know you have nothing left and by the time you realize it, it'll be too late to do anything about it. watch out for giving rights away in the name of terror. |

Yes, they are. Those that aren't opposed to it tend to be less informed on the issue than they should be.
***edit***
You ask why none of those campaigning strongly on the pro-law idea are in the top now? Simple...it isn't the only consideration in the election. What ought to be REALLY bothering the anti-law crowd is the fact that ALL the candidates are now starting to back off of their initial positions on illegals. Each, to a varying degree, is becoming more interested in the enforcement end of the issue. They are starting to hear the anger in the electorate and are reacting to it. |
