Are green card attorney fees paid by employer. Can any employer ask employee to pay that fully, is it legal?

One of my friend's employer (a 5 year old startup) has filed for his green card. They are however asking him to pay all the legal fees which will surely not be less than $6000 over the period of time. Is it legal? Aren't the employers supposed to bear all the costs of labour certification and other steps in GC, including attorney fees? Please suggest. Need authentic info to make a decision.

NO! If the person wishes he may stay on an "H" visa. The green card benefits the employee! It is not only legal but it is common. If your friend doesn't want the green card he can stay on a visa. The employer is responsible for the costs of visas NOT green cards.
