My father was an immigrant once - before the WW2 he came from Dublin to look for work, married my mum then spent 6 years in a German POW camp before they were thankfully reunited and settled down.

It makes me sad to see how people generalise when it comes to immigrants. There are good and bad ones after all. You have to distinguish btwn these two categories! I know a lot of English people who are lazy buggers and on the dole for life and I know many immigrants who are decent and hard-working and who do not scrounge off of public funds.

The problem, in my opinion, are illegal immigrants. I work in immigration myself and 80% of my workload are asylum-seekers. The problem is the UK is not investing enough into border control and enforcement!! Immigration Officers are not properly trained and so illegal immigrants slip through the net. After all the UK is an island so how on earth do they enter the country? So we need more properly trained IOs, CIOs and ECOs and more money needs to be ploughed into detecting devices at borders and liaison officers on air planes who suss out illegal entrants. We need a tougher immigration minister as well, all the previous ones were powerless jokes. And finally an immigration agency that knows exactly what its left and right hand are doing.

You are probably right. Most of the English working class seem to do nothing of the sort (working that is). They seem happy to live at ridiculously low rates of rent, have free school meals and in the words of someone I know have the council look at a flickering fluoro. light rather than change the bulb themselves. They also kick up a stink when someone reports them for benefit fraud, calling them a grass etc. Sickening!! The culture of working a bit "on the sly" is also maddening, why do the English feel that they can abuse a system that was designed to help them.

maybe it is a time for change? People are not paid for being British or Polish, IT specialist or driver, older or younger - even not for being named Kaminski or Smith. People are paid for the skills yhey have, if someone else is willing to pay for that.
Labour market is like any other market - if you go shopping, you expect to find the best goods for the best price. It is the same about employers, paying for the skills of their emloyees, simply like that.

Well if they did not work or claim benefits and they all spend their time abroad. The immigrants could get jobs with the daily mail and occupy all the vacant houses. So problem solved :)

the hard working british people made this country.i know there are the bone idol,but you get them every where and the immigrants aint all good workers regardless of what gets said about them.they come here claiming benefits the ones i know all claim family credits.just in the country and entitled to benefits without having paid any money into the system.then they get dental and nhs health care.and priority for housing and assistance aswell(financial). i am scottish but i am proud to be british and dont you dare call any of us a waste of space.the pension system would be in a far better state if we didnt have to shell out money else where for the extra expense of looking after the immigrants.and before anybody pipes up about how they help the economy..its a fact that most of the money earned by immigrant workers is sent home to their native countrys,so it goes out and stays out. the immigrant takes out far more than they put in...FACT.!!!!!

if the immigrants where not here their would be no pension or nhs crisis kids would be able to leave home at 18 or so instead of being stuck with mum and dad until well into there 20's country is now over crowded its time to send em all home back to their families and roots

My sweetie, thats why the immigrants go to the uk as we all know overseas that the english are not so eager to make there hands dirty. Anyway if it isnt for the immigrants than you wouldnt be such a strong economy.
