do they come and work, and get sent home without hopes of ever becoming citizen? or do most get citizenship after awhile?

Legal foreign workers are given time limited visas so yes it is normally expected that they be transient. However, more than half of the people who qualify for permanent residence are already in the US at the time they qualify. Employees who have had a number of years residence legally in the US are much more likely to find an employer who will sponsor them to live in the US. I haven't reread the regulations but I thought I read that if someone is here legally for five years they can apply for a green card on taht basis. If I have that wrong someone else will say so... |
