Although they would not admit it, many Americans believe we should close our doors to all immigration, especially from Latin countries.
Unfortunate, but true. |

No...just illegals for 99%. 1% maybe but they don't count for much. |

US people have NO problem with LEGAL immigrants (except when they plot terrorism).
US people have a BIG problem with ILLEGAL aliens. |

NO, not at all, honestly! I work in the hospitality industry, with people from over 20 different countries. They all came here LEGALLY and are able to work LEGALLY. They are great people who enrich our culture, my hotels, and my life. I am PROUD to call them my friends.
Also, my great-grandparents came from Russia legally in the early 1900's... I love legal immigration! That's what makes our culture as rich and diverse as it is... |

Nope. Just illegals |

legal immigrants = hugs and welcome

If someone is here legally (with all that means and entails) then they are welcome by all means. My mother is an immigrant, naturalized in 1956.
And consider this: in 2000 the U.S. population was about 216 million people. Trying to find one phrase or idea that describes all of us is a pointless exercise. |

Our nation here was made by immigrants from all over the world. |

No the majority of people I talk to on this are against illegals, heck many of our grandparents are immigrants so we are not against them just those who want to have all the rights of citizenship without complying with the laws of citizenship. |

nope. if you come to the US legally, pay taxes and have a drivers license before you start driving, you are legit.
if not, you need to be frozen out of any and all social services, job opportunities, etc. and deported once detected following even the slightest legal/municipal/traffic infraction. |

Quote "citizens are being denied jobs for cheaper labor done by even legal immigrants through the HB1 visas. If we really needed them....fine....and they should be paid exactly the same as our citizens"
Actually you are incorrect, on this visa the US employer is suppose to pay *above* the state/national average for the job if an American would be doing the job.
Part of the H1B visa paperwork is a study of similar jobs in that field and pay scale and job requirements in your state. |

Some people are. But like myself, most are not. This country was founded on immigrants. My grandparents were from Europe. They came here legally, learned English, and became productive Americans. They never asked for a handout, nor did they expect one. My grandfather kissed the ground here everyday, he was so happy to be here. The United States has always welcomed immigrants, the legal ones, and I believe will continue to do so. The illegal ones, are not welcome. They need to go home, and come in the right way, and stop using racism as an excuse. |

just the illegals. legal immigrants are welcomed in. |

Legal immigrants who want to become Americans (speak the language, honor the flag, and American customs) are more than welcomed. No one is against anyone wanting a better life, but Americans are tired of people dumping on us and demanding that we like it. |

Above limits that make sense, yes.
Above limits our schools and programs can support, and our jobs can provide for without dropping our wages, yes.
You are on the right track. They need to address the impacts. It isn't rocket science |

No for people who want to come here legally, who want to obey are laws, study to take the citizienship test, learn English, who learn about America its history, its traditions I say come on in. Hell once they hold up there citizienship I will be the first one to buy them a beer. |

UHHH, no seeing as almost all of us can trace their linage back to another country. Name me another country that is so lax on their border security. |

I am against the changes they made to the 1965 immigration law - it places families above skills, and third world countries over first world countries. We are running out of space and resources and this population growth is too much too fast. Third world workers are replacing American workers. |

No.....but it is raising concernes since citizens are being denied jobs for cheaper labor done by even legal immigrants through the HB1 visas. If we really needed them....fine....and they should be paid exactly the same as our citizens. But they aren't. Sometimes for 12000 less a year. Great bonus for the company.....brings more people here.....but we don't need more people and we certainly don't need more people comming here to do our jobs for less. It is causing concern for those of us who live here and see our jobs sent overseas, legal immigrants being brought in to take our jobs for less and then the flood of illegal workers as well. Can anyone tell me what they think the American citizen is supposed to do to survive? We have a right to survive as well. Many don't come here wanting freedom or to be American.....they just want the money. While we're fighting to find any employment to survive on.
It's not being mad at them either (immigrants)....they are going by the book....we're just wondering what our government is doing to us. When the rug gets pulled out....they can go home......this is our home. |

No - we love legal immigrants. They, just like the past generations, contribute and add to our country. One of the reasons that I'm against illegal immigration is because I see it as very unfair to those who wish to immigrate here the right way, and are waiting it out, doing the paperwork, etc. . |

No. It's the pro-illegal side that wants to obscure the issue by trying to lump the two together. Legal immigrants are wonderful people, good citizens and excellent neighbors and colleagues.
Legal immigrants deserve respect. Illegal aliens are law breakers who do not deserve jobs, amnesty, educational subsidies, driver's licenses, and other benefits at the expense of U.S. taxpayers. Illegal aliens first should be encouraged to Go Home voluntarily and then humanely deported as the law requires. Once the public recognizes that jobs and benefits equal encouragement the public will truly press for the flow to cease. Amnesties for illegal aliens have clearly made the problem worse and should be vigorously opposed. |

No.
LEGAL immigrants obeyed the law in coming here.. That is a strong indication they will continue to do so once they get here.
ILLEGAL immigrants broke the law getting here. That is a strong indication they will continue to do so once they get here. |

It is getting that way but not just the USA all countries are now looking at their total immigration policy. Many in Europe want to slow it down because of the problems it is causing and totally US takes in 5 times more then all countries in the world together.
Totally with immigration legal and illegal plus all the different visas the total is just at 5 million as of 2006.
This country only creates 1 million jobs last year. that also includes the ones that have been outsourced and people who have retired.
This year and prediction for the next few years is said to be less jobs.
Yet, we still haven't changed the number of the legal applicators wanting to come here.
All countries should base immigration on what is best for the citizens of a country not the people wanting to come. |

As was previously stated, if you want to come here LEGALLY and speak the language(for the most part), follow the laws, NOT ask for special treatment all the time, pay taxes, and so on, then welcome home! If you just want to come here to make money and live without actually contributing to society as an American, then adios. |

Americans' opinions about anything are incredibly diverse. Most people are only against illegal immigrants, but there is a sizable minority that also dislikes legal immigrants, especially if they're Latin American. |

most immigrants have accents, so how can Americans differentiate the two? Most Americans hear someone with an accent and automatically assume, someone is illegal and thats not the case.
Its just what is told to most on the news, they believe it. |

Not at all. Legal immigrants contribute to our society as a general rule.
Illegal aliens take more than they could ever contribute. |
