that a person may be in this country illegally? When I go to England they know right off I am not from England. What would be a dead give-a -way for them possibly being illegal? I know you can't just look at a person and tell but there must be other signs to raise suspicion

I'd say a good clue would be the lack of ability to speak fluent English while not looking like a tourist. |

There is no outward sign to tell you if someone is an illegal or not.
Not knowing English isn't one. Many, many legal immigrants, as well as dual US/? citizens don't know English or have a poor grasp of it. Knowing English isn't a requirement to immigrate, just to become a citizen it is needed. So that isn't one.
Hmmm...well...sometimes several people will rent a house and share the costs. But we have known seasonal migrant workers, who were legal, who did this..so this isn't necessarily a way to tell either.
I am at a loss as to what other signs would raise suspicion.

In my neighborhood: If your family of 13 lives in a one-room garage conversion - And your wife and mother are digging through my trash every night - And you drive a 30 year old pick up loaded down with gardening equipment - And your US-born sons are covered with gang tats and wave guns in my face and call me "gringa" every time they pass my house... I would have my sneaking suspicions that you are illegal. Unfortunately there are only two people on my block that DON'T fit this description. |
