Are there too many foreigners in Britain now?

For me, the problem is there are too many people who have not integrated into a "British" culture, (which can be done without losing their own). This causes both sides to be isolated from eachother and resentment and racism to boil.

Its not the numbers of foreigners that is the problem - Its just how we integrate them into our society and more importantly how they integrate into OUR society. For example, I believe foreigners migrating to England should have to have a certain level of English language and have a willingless to live with and not aside native people.

I'm sure the Saxons might have agreed 1,000 years ago that there were too many foreigners, what with the hordes of Normans and all. Before that there were the Vikings, before them there were the Romans, and Celts. Foreigners should be welcomed but should also be encouraged to integrate - learn the language, accept the customs, and over time share their own customs and traditions as they assimilate into UK society.

Britain needs immigrants to replace all of its own citizens now living abroad. I'm sick of hearing people demanding an end to foreigners coming to GB when no-one is recalling the ex-pats from Spain, France, Australia etc (anywhere there is a beach, basically).

I've been in Scotland for 6 years now and understand the media is always biased, but am forever surprised and disappointed when the general public believe what they read/hear. I dream of a day when the majority of the population can think for themselves and try to see both sides of an argument before opening their mouth.

I like the fact that we are opening our doors to other people. After all we Brits immigrate in our millions to other countries I wonder how these migrants would feel if they were greeted with the same revulsion as we seem to be doing to our immigrants. I don't care whether they want to join in or not,and how many of us speak more than one language ? It's okay to criticise but please look inside first before you do so.

All in Uk are immigrants or descended from immigrants, including the days of the invasiosn (Norse, Romans, Normans) and other historical immigrations e.g. irish Potato famine, pograms etc, and as an island thus engaged in shipping the various settlement of exporters/importers/shipping/salors etc, and of course those coridally invited to immigrate by Uk in the 50's etc, and those fleeing persecution from Nazi's and more modern atrocities etc.

Wait unitl Greece/cyprus/spain/portugal etc start complaining about the amount Brits going over there and not integrating/learning the language and buying all the property!

Of course this is something Brit's done historiclly they did go and takeover parts of Africa and Asia, without integrating too, I belive they did not bother to change relgion, adapt local culture and customs when they were in so called Commonwealth/empoire (quite opposite), but when many came back conversely they brought them with them e.g. bungalows, curry, clothes, etc!!!!

We live in a globalized society, the west is multicultural and all better for it.

There are just too many people in the world full stop - hence wars as countries fight for resources which are limited compared to demand, and the fact that we are slowly destroyed the world as we currently know it.

Are you talking about immigrants or about foreigners?
As regards foreigners: either they work for you(r economy) or they spend tourist money. Are there too many of them??? I don't know.
As regards immigrants: throughout the ages there have been immigrants and most of them brought new business to the country.
One hopeful thought to conclude: On a foggy day the continent is isolated.

Sorry if a make u feel bad... i'm mexican and i'm living in london now....i also have spanish passport... but we're not abusing of ur country we're using it... imagine! the salary in mexico is 85 pounds... a month!! imagine! nobody can live with that! all the people die.... all the people robbed, all the people ask 4 money in the streets, all the cups are corrupted to get more money, all the people.... go to somewhere else... and i tell u this... EUA have more mexicans that any foreign people here in britain... i'm not even working my mom sends me the money...i'm just 15 years old....i just want to study the university cuz u have the best universities in all the world and it will make my curriculum a lot bigger! so thanks for the country u have and sorry if i make u feel bad living in ur country...

Britain has always been full of foreigners. The first mob arrived back about 12,000 years ago when the last iceage ended. Since then, they have continued, without so much as a by-your leave, to arrive by the boatload. The Celts, c500BC. Even the blessed Julius Caesar, [who the hell invited him anyway] and millions of others. Get used to it.

stop remarking about Brits going abroad..when they go they take capital into the other countries and job skills..most immigrants that come here come with little more than the clothes on their backs.

I've no objection to the immigrants in the country already although I dis-agree with the governments policies on keeping the flood gates open.
At some point in the near future (if we havent already reached that point)
this little island will be over-populated.
I also think the way immigrants are vetted before admission is a complete farce.
Bulgaria is soon to join the EU and the sight of seeing the ppl applying for a visa is quite alarming, this all adds up to thousands more adding to the already busting at the seams population.

Sure it would be great to be able to say to everybody - "Just come along and stay".. But yeah, I have to agree, there unfortunately has to be a limit somewhere. The problem of space isn't going to go away, no matter how much some of us love the idea of always letting everybody in (and I'm one of them) - we just wouldn't be able to do it. We are only a small island after all.

I'm not sure how we could go about detracting people from wanting to come over though, unless we got a little bit tougher on immigration than we are now. But I definitely wouldn't like to see us get to the stage where we start turning away genuinely desperate people. That should never be allowed to happen.

Instead we should be encouraging the whole of Europe to take in a more equal share, with the larger countries taking in more people than we do. As there are only so many new homes that they can build here before we start running out of room. We have a while to go yet I'm sure, but it will probably happen eventually. :-/

Yes I do think there are too many foreigners here. It is in no way a racial statement but a statement of act. The British people are suffering by having their identity removed. We are not allowed to act as we are in our own country without being looked upon as being a racist. Obviously there are the racist element which exists, unfortunately in all societies, but on the whole it is good to have mixed cultures, but there has to be a limit otherwise we all suffer.

Britain has been full of foreigners for a long time such as Angles, Saxons, Romans, Vikings etc..... it would be difficult to say who originates from here unless they can trace back through the centuries back to the Celts.

I think that yes maybe there are to many "foreigners" living in England.here is a bright idea.all the lazy British get of there chairs and go to work and then you wouldn't need foreigners to do your "jobs"

as usual the liberal roll out the we are all imigrants crap. the problem people have is that a lot of the imigrants who come to this country just want freebies and are raping the welfare state.

as far as there contribution to our economy they concell that out with all the services such as housing and medical care the get. not to mention disability benifits.
it seems inigrants get free dental and optical care and prescriptions for free. yet as a txpayer i have to pay for all this no discounts for me or freebies. toss them all out with the liberalsand put the military incharge of our borders

Of course...our rescources are stretched to the limit...I say look after our own first..immigrants get a better deal than our pensioners and other disadvantaged sections of our community..if they want to come make them do 2 years national service...

I think the real question here is "Can Britain cope with the influx of immigrants?" Of course, the answer has to be "NO". We are already seeing an increase in British people emmigrating to avoid all the associated problems, such as integration (or lack of it), racial attacks, lack of schools, hospital beds, jobs. You are quite right to point out that we are an island and it stands to reason that geographically we can only hold so many people/houses etc. I am not a racist, indeed I have friends of many colours and creeds, but it does anger me that we have so many people, genuine British people, who are struggling to find employment and housing yet so-called refugees are given housing, furniture, clothes etc without putting something back into our society. I fear that this will lead to a civil uprising. A more stringent control on immigration is required - Mr Blair please note!
