There is no way in hell that 11 million illegals are picking strawberries,that is propaganda to use as an excuse by illegals to stay,there is no fruit picking in Chicago,it's all concrete floors and millions of illegals are there,in New York the water is not fit to grow anything,so how do fruit pickers make a living there?anyone that falls for that line has to be a complete moron,the truth is that they have taken good jobs from US citizens and no one brings that up.

UPDATED....Ahhh, your right. GOOD point. Yes it's ASSUMING we are all lazy and I don't agree. *They were talking about this the other day on tv. ALOT of people are insulted by it as they should be. Just because you or I do not work for min. wage, there are alot of people who do. The only reason they pay those wages in the fields and work them so hard is the illegals accept it. If they weren't HERE, there would be higher standards. And there would be people willing to do it. If my kids were starving and I had no other choice, hell, I'd pick some damn strawberries. There are worse jobs....like working at a mini mart or Burger King. I'd rather pick strawberries!!!

It's insulting to my intelligence. It implies that Americans don't want those jobs. The reality is that Americans don't want those jobs because the jobs don't pay a livable wage.

Americans are not the problem because they are unwilling to do the jobs. Politicians are the problem, for allowing employers to pay a non-livable wage to ANYONE. Politicians won't admit this, though, because they are paid off by lobbyists who represent the companies that are making large profits by underpaying their workers.

As long as there is continuous mass of cheap labor both illegal and legal coming into the USA ,wages will keep going down in all fields. Supply and demand. More people competing for less jobs that is what happens.

We only create 2 million jobs a year and at the same times we are outsourcing jobs 100 thousands to cheap wage countries. Then we let in 3.5 million immigrants legal and illegal yearly. Do the math.

Am I insulted, no. The young and out of work Americans should, but most, young, are living in la la land, they really haven't figured it out yet.
Most think illegals just work in the fields taking jobs they won't do. There are only 500 thousand field jobs in the USA. again the math.

If jobs paid enough, they'd have no problem finding people to do them. Companies would rather pay illegal immigrants subpar rates under the table. No matter how you look at it, it's not fair for Americans or the immigrants.

I lived in Florida for many years and I can tell you that the people who harvest, get paid by the bushel, not by the hour. I have done piecework in a greenhouse and got paid 15 cents for every flat I planted and made maybe 60 dollars a day, and I was not the fastest person. You will not get rich on these jobs, but you won't starve either. So yeah, they're kinda minimum wage stuff, but it will be possiblr to get it done legally.

Now wait just a second here. No one should assume we are only talking about Mexicans. It seems that only all the Mexicans think we are only referring to them, that is one problem. This is NOT AN Issue of RACISM. It is an issue of citizenship and the right to enjoy the fruits of this great nation LEGALLY. Anyone, and I mean ANYONE, who has a problem with maintaining and protecting legal citizenship needs to pack up their crap and go back to wherever the hell they came from as well. WE do have laws here, just seems as though they haven't been enforced in a while because the government is actually enjoying all the money that is being paid to them by the way of bogus SS#'s. We the people really need to get the government back into check and keep them there. NO, it's not a cop out. Face it, not all, but most of us won't work for that cheap. I mean, yeah young people are looking for jobs, but 10 hr days in the tomato field for minimum wage or less??? PLEASE. I wouldn't even work for minimum wage, why would I work for less? I know it sounds shallow, but low paying menial jobs that they take are what keeps our capitalist society going. I don't think they should be here illegally, but imagine how your life would change if they all left... Do you really think millions of Americans are going to step up to the plate and start working in there place??? I don't think soooooooooo!!!

When I was a kid growing up we lived in a labor camp in Springdale, AR. We picked beans, strawberries, cut grapes, whatever work was available. When I was a teenager in Romoland California, I worked digging potatoes and also worked in the potato shed, grading them. What a stinky job that was! My brother was a sack sewer (as in sewing). We also dug onions. When I grew up and got married (and my husband always made decent wages) I would take my kids to pick strawberries, apples, peaches, whatever so they could earn money, and also help buy extra school clothes they wanted that were beyond our budget (such as when my daughter wanted a $50 pair of Jordache jeans--and this was in the late 70's) so don't tell me American youth won't do that sort of job. And it wasn't just me and my kids or immigrants out there working. There were lots of people who lived there who were working. Some of them depended on it for their existence, some were just doing it for extra money, BUT THEY WERE DOING IT!

America managed very well without illegal immigrants before ... and can manage very well without illegal immigrants now ... and why is it that the companies employing illegals are getting away with paying less than the minimum wage?? What's the POINT in having legislation about minimum wage if that law isn't going to be followed either?? Why do we have any laws at all in the United States? There's a lot of truth in that statement I am not insulted but discussed that Americans will grip about them but not get out their in the fields. Now the ones who come here and sell drugs get out go home there are to many of them here but again that's are fault stronger more honest security on the borders and to stop accepting bribery would be a start nothing but greedy Americans.

Let's define the term AMERICAN, shall we? Ok, American is ANYONE BORN IN THE CONTINENT OF NORTH AMERICA=Canada, United States, & Mexico. CENTRAL AMERICA=from Guatemala-Panama, SOUTH AMERICA=Colombia-Argentina. Ok, so what Americans are you talking about? Not to mention the people in the Caribbean.
Secondly, if you are a citizen would you want to scrub toilets? Clean the streets, babysitt, cook, pick grapes, or even do gardening? I don't. I am a US citizen and have few degrees, so NO I do not want those jobs.

No, because I believe that many immigrants worker harder and for less wages than Americans. These immigrants have not taken away jobs from Americans they are just doing many of the jobs that we American turn our nose up at (including myself). Why would I go and do back breaking work for less than minimum wages when I can get a easier higher paying job

No, Mexicans r new to this country, like the pilgrims. They had to work their a** off, right? Isn't just common sense that they have to do the same thing? Besides i do not know any "whites" that would be willing to do that work now. You are much more likely to find a white guy in an office than out in a field picking crops, not that that wasn't the way it was when whites first came. And there are a ton of ILLEGAL mexicans who don't work and LEGAL mexicans that came to "The land of oppurtunity" and are nt working....
