The reason is because the United States have a outstanding amount Spanish speaking immigrants. The number of Hispanics immigrants is around 5 to 1 compared to immigrants from Europe and Asia.

I want to scream everytime I hear it. I've even called and the call was first answered in Spanish and I had to press 2 for English. I have severed my association with that bank!

Because numbers speak for themselves. There are 12-30 million Illegal Mexicans. That's a very large percentage of the population who are undocumented and receive welfare, food stamps, free health care and free education. These people USE the USA social programs as if they had a right to them.
Expect our PC government to bend over to make sure they understand how to get all the benefits that us taxpayers can fund.

Call the language institute in Monterey. They probably have a cool recording. Spanish is often offered as an option because English and Spanish are the languages most commonly spoken in the U.S. Hmong would be wastefull, with a minimal return on a big investment.

No, in reality I don't care. That's the business's decision. Not mine, not yours, it's THEIR decision...they want to make money and keep customers, they'll accommodate them anyway they can..they'd do the same in Latin America...trust me.

I am an immigrant to the USA and can assure you that it sends me NUTZ.................admittedly am from the UK so apart from the odd word or two we can understand each other in general BUT the other day I was trying to talk to some female on the phone and she had the nerve to say she could NOT understand me and yet she was the one with broken English..................

Personally feel there should be NO other option but the mother tongue of the country..and this was some one who grew up in Germany and if you did not speak the language you had to bloody learn FAST cos they sure as heck was not gonna change just for you.............

I'm sick of it..if you want to live in our country...learn the language. Speak your own at home. We don't have a number for other countries because they WON'T change their language to accomodate us, and they shouldn't. But we are a nation of stupid liberals.

I'm not, it's an advantage to me, I can get a spanish speaker faster than I can an english speaker anytime I call. I hate being put on hold while I'm on the phone with an english speaker. If I press 2 for spanish I can get my problem solved with that one connection, no being put on hold, and no transfers. I enjoy getting my calls done in half the time while you are still on hold, I am on my happy way.

Okay, no. But I would rather here "for English press 1" first.

I guess I am tolerant of this, and I will tell you why. As an American there are a very small number of us that speak a second language, yet we travel quite widely. Most Americana's hope that people in foreign countries will have enough English to help them along, or speak English well. The educated in other countries often speak their native tongue, English, and an additional language.

I only speak English fluently myself, so I am not being elitist with my commentary.

I am not speaking about having our Government documents printed in 150 different languages, ie DMV, voting, etc. I was only anwering regarding on the telephone for customer service. Thanks

You will be hearing so much in the about 2 days , that is gonna set you on fire. I seen the Washington Madam, Atty, and Larry Flynn on Larry King their will in about 2 days 30 names of Congress an the Senate of the ones that visited the Washington Madam. Larry Flynnt is showing them and said he was shocked at one Senator name being there. All those hypocrites will all be in the open for all to see. No matter how much you complain and moan about that, we will always be stuck in that sort of situation where we have to press other numbers, many times, to get to where we need to on the phone, not just the language part.

But I don't care. Life is life, get one. stop whining.
