As a Brit English Citizen, are we getting too lazy to work ?

Hi,

Although I have my own company, I love getting a bit grubby in growing veg.

I would not employ folks from foreign climes to pick my leeks, or whatever.

I do it myself, with Brit freinds.

What is it with "migrant" workers in the feilds ?

OK, they earn more than they could do at home.
I am anti-racist
Do not get me wrong, but a lot of Brits would be glad to go turnip-picking, but can't be bothered becausr the Romanians, Poles, Yugoslavians, etc are doing it.

Where do we go with this malarky ?

Yes i believe we are. There are several factors. the first being the socialist benefit system that is massively abused. Peope no longer know how to take responsibility for themselves. The pride that got us through the war is gone. I wasnt happy about the polish immigrants that came over here but they highlighted the awful work ethic that has developed here. Also the governments need to fill the universities with people studying useless or irrelevant subjects. Basically making the graduates think they are too good for the lower paid job. Over the past 10 years more and more universities are opening and there are more and more graduates who 20 years ago would of never been smart enough to get any kind of degree.

We need to stop the benefits! And we need to instill the belief that if you dont work, you dont eat! I know it sounds harsh but this country really needs a f**king hard slap and be made to realise that people in many countries have to take responsibility for their own actions.

Weve been making our youth believe they are too good for the less appealing jobs, kind of like the usa, where they instill an unrealistic amount of self belief in their kids. Its the same here but we just make sure our youth have loads of bits of paper with this-that-and the other qualification but when it comes down to it, they cant even boil an egg.

I am sure you would find more now. but you have to remember that foreigners who take those jobs are over here to work anyway they can and live and eat as simply as possible ,save money and then take it back home to a increase their standard of living. us Brits have mortgages high rents ,extortionate energy bills, extra taxes and an ever increasing amount of fines to pay. sas we where born here and expect to stay here with a good standard of life. unfortunately this country is rapidly turning into a third world nation unless something happens soon where all in for a shock.

i know lots of gang masters they pay their eastern european and russian workers £2 per hour, a british person cannot live for £2 a hour and a lot of british don't want to somewhere where the majority of other workers are foreign

There was a programme on TV a few months ago about immigrant workers taking British jobs, and this very problem came up.
A farmer in East Anglia was interviewed and said that he was paying his (usually) Polish workers £7.50 per hour, and they were Polish because he couldn't get British people to do his crop picking.
The presenter went from the farm to outside a Job Center, where he interviewed a few very fit looking young men. He asked them if they would be interested in working for £7.50 per hour - "starting tomorrow". All said "yes", and then asked what the work was. When they were told that it was crop picking, they all, promptly, changed their minds.
The cans of lager in their hands did little for their image, I do have to say.
I think there are very many people who would do ANY kind of work, for very little money. They simply cannot get jobs, and I feel hugely sorry for them.
There are, however, large numbers of people who simply do not want to work. Those people get by, adequately, but not well, on the British benefits system, which provides that they do not starve, and keeps a roof over their heads. Many of them do "cash in hand" bits of work "on the side", and are thus better off than they would be if they took "proper" jobs.
Imigrant workers usually came here because our wages have been better than wages in their own country, which, almost certainly, has a less bountiful benefits system. Simply put, if they don't work, they go hungry or have nowhere to live.

There are now a growing number of "Answer" participants who delight in running down British workers as lazy, incompetent and unskilled to do the jobs needing to be done . This False representation has been put about by Profiteers and encouraged here by liberal statements to justify the influx of Foreign interests of greedy employers . The lie has been bandied around so much that even the duffers from abroad are beginning to believe they are superior. Standards in every area has dropped to a Low that is unprecedented in our Island History . Yet ....The Britisher is taking it on the chin. It is Time we HIT BACK HARD.

If employers pay more money to British workers then they will work have you seen the cost of living in the U.K.
and yes I used to work out side as a gardener in summer and in Autumn to spring veg picker in all weathers for 9 years for £10 more than people on the dole and loved the work
YES i miss working out side now due to spine and nerve damage

No but we will not work for £1 an hour and frankly the so called minimum wage is hardly worth getting out of bed for. It would hardly cover my Council Tax utility bills never mind food and clothes

Puzzled
Nearly every job asks for experience and young Brits don't have any. This is because of businesses not offering apprenticeships, they just hire ready trained and experienced foreign labour.

freebienutter
I wondered the same thing. When you see British workers demanding a certain amount of money certain amount of time off more than the minimum, they don't want the job if they don't get it. Most foreigners are glad to have work, they take the tougher job, worse holidays, lower pay.
If British people were not so up themselves they would find work easier and if they were not always wanting to have MORE and maybe make do with what they have they could keep the jobs or get them in the first place.
I know a lot of people from different countries and they work hard, don't pull as many sick days and don't complain about holiday entitlement. I know a lot from this country too who work like this, unfortunately though we are the ones who are barely over the poverty line while our government have second houses and expense accounts with 18 weeks holiday.

some people are and some are not, some jobs you don't have a chance to apply for because companies are cutting cost but the people who are making money on cheap labour is not right and these companies should not be allowed to do this

Most companies and employers when faced with an application from a Brit and a Non-Brit candidate, the final word would be who can work more for less, and it's often the non-Brit who would take any job, however small or big. Don't blame immigrants if you're too lazy and picky!!

You're so consumed in thinking of and pin pointing immigrants and ''foreigners'' that it's all that you notice about people now.
This is unhealthy, my ''friend''.
