I just met a family that moved to Costa Rica and they love it. The cost of living is low, they have a great house, lease a show-jumper horse for their daugher (whose goal is Olympic equestrian team) at a reasonable rate, etc.
I loved Singapore and especially Hong Kong, but both are very expensive to live (especially housing) and tough to get permission to reside there (no way to get citizenship).
Canada, Australia, NZ are all good and very popular with Americans since they are fairly easily to adapt to culturally. So's the Caribbean -- quite a few countries where you can move to fairly readily. But off the beaten track, so to speak, is some very good living for Americans at very reasonable cost of living and very low taxes: growing expat communities in Ecuador, NE Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica, Argentina.
Check out International Schools for your child. Available in many countries around the world (Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong, and dozens of other places). The education is superb -- much better than any public school in the US, and rivalling the best private schools though at much more reasonable tuition. As an expat, your children might not be eligible to go to local public schools! Plan on International School for your child -- very good deal. |
