As a US citizen? would you marry an illegal already here in the US?

Well, if he is rich and doesn't need me to marry him to get legal in this country, I could consider marrying him. I have known many stories of individuals whom have married illegal aliens to later find out that they have been used. Many of this individuals are married already in their country and it will be very difficult to find out their true status in another country. Unfortunately, these lonely women whom have no self esteem nor respect will marry any loser that will tell them anything as long as they have someone by their side. These poor creatures will only wake up not short after their loser, now legal husband leaves them for the woman that are their true wives in their country and whom have been waiting to reunite with their spouse, or to start a relationship with another unsuspecting lonely loser that might give them the time that most of us women in our right mind would never do. See, if you need to get your green card, get it in your own merits if you truly love me because as far as I am concern, I will never... ever, make you legal in my lifetime.

There isn't enough money in the world to make me marry an illegal alien. By virtue of the fact he's illegal would automatically signify he sneaked into the USA.

Guys cannot have the anchor babies to stay. They need to find a dumb American chick to sponge off until they can get their drug business up and running. Always remember--they will send extra cash BACK to their homeland.

I'm an educated female who speaks fluent ENGLISH, not Spanish and would have no way to communicate with an illegal. I would never lower my standards and be desperate enough to permit some low-life illegal to USE me for a green card through marriage. Why would I be stupid enough to knowingly marry an illegal who would only drag me down?

It's a win-win situation for him and a 100% loss for me. I am able to snag a better class of husband. When the time comes, I won't need to fund some illegal charity case.

Our forefathers were grateful for the opportunity to come to America. They worked hard, Learned English, Became Citizens and participated in communities. They contributed greatly to the growth of the USA ...all without the help of welfare, food stamps and section 8 housing.

Statistics get ugly when an illegal marries a US Citizen, has a child, then decides to go back to Mexico where he does not have to pay child support. Good luck marrying an illegal who bolts, since USA is not his country.

Mamour, I would not go as far as saying that marrying an illegal is tantamount to betraying your country. There are thousands upon thousands of US citizens, who knowingly & actively participate in the criminal activities of their spouses. Members of gangs, that traffic drugs and guns to name a few. We do not say that they are betraying the country.

A good citizen would, after learning about the status of their soon to be (out of status) spouse must take all legal remedies to help them become legal BEFORE they marry. If it means going back to their country and wait for the petition, then so be it. True love is compassionate and not blind as to tolerate the wrongs of their beloved. A wrong cannot be corrected by another wrong. It can only be set right.

The better citizen may want to avoid this altogether.

I would never marry an illegal. Neither should anyone else because in my opinion 2/3 of the illegals marry merely for the green card and then dump the spouse.

I try to avoid dealing with criminals! If the government would do it's job people who married illegals would be charged with aiding, abetting and/or harboring an illegal alien. And sentenced to 5 years federal prison and a $250,000 fine!
What do you tell your kids? Daddy(or mommy) is in _________(fill in country of origin) and can not be with us because he(she) is a criminal!
The worst part is that there are people out there who thing being a criminal is something to be proud of! Well more family values from south of the border!

I don't want to be rude but people marrying illegals are crazy because they let themselves be used by someone who just wants to adjust status. I couldn't even fall in love with a law-breaker because I just couldn't love someone who has to lie, forge documents just to be able to survive.

Mr. X: what you are saying is wrong. The forefathers were not illegals. Every generation has to keep the laws that are in force at the present time. If they didn't have immigration laws in the 18-19th centuries, there was no law to break.

Every citizen was illegal in the US at some point in time, if it wasn't you then it could have been your forefathers. If you marry someone it would be like you are betraying your country, you would actually be doing your country a service as that person's status would be legalized and he would be automatically brought into the tax net and start contributing something to the economy.

I would like to know how that would be perceived as "betraying your country"? It would mean one married someone guilty of committing a civil misdemeanor, nothing more. It amazes me not one person here knows or is married to someone who has been convicted of a criminal misdemeanor, with so many perfect citizens around our courts should sit empty everyday.

Personally I cannot say what I would or would not do except date a married man like so many of the celebrities we admire do.

I am married to an "illegal alien." He was 14 at the time he entered the US LEGALLY with his family. He had been living here for years when his visa expired, and he stayed. We dated for 5 years and are married, and I do not have to worry about him fleeing to Mexico as some previous posters so kindly mentioned because he is a naturalized citizen at this point in time. Just curious, but does anyone know about the situation in Juarez right now that is causing so many Mexicans to flee? Is anybody here aware of the application process for visas and residency and why some immigrants are left with no choice but to flee for the US? It's awfully easy to be negative towards illegal immigrants because they're "law breakers", but aren't we all? There are definitely many negatives to having such a large population of undocumented aliens and workers in the US, but anyone with half a heart who would give a second to these people would realize they're not all "drug dealers"- they're families looking for a better life, much like our European ancestors.
