i believe that every country has a right to protect it's boarders from unknown person's entering their country, the recent news of a load of boat people has sparked a debate as to whether Australia is seen as an easy soft target for illegal emigration by those fleeing poverty and war and by the unscrupulous people smugglers that use that desperation to make a profit, by shipping these people off on rickety boats with not enough food or water.
i feel Australia has as a nation done more than it's fair share of taking in refugees and that there are legal channels with which to go about getting into the country, of course with the latest load of boat people they set fire to the boat forcing the authorities to take them in and causing loss of life.
now they're here we do have an obligation to on humanitarian grounds offer them medical treatment my opinion is that,that's as far as we are obliged after that they should be deported post haste back to their country of origin, if they want to come here then they should like hundred's of thousands of others apply and come into the country legally,Australia has embassies everywhere.
without emigration Australia wouldn't be the country it is today but that doesn't mean that we should have to take in every strange person who feels they can just sail on in, no other country would be expected to, in fact other countries wouldn't even bother giving them what is sure to be for these boat people very expensive medical treatment, a lot of countries would just drop them straight into jail and then if they survived that, to deport them.

I'm a supporter of legal, controlled immigration but firmly believe that all boat people and illegal immigrants should be returned immediately to their country of origin. I wouldn't even give them the right to a hearing. They've tried to jump the queue and shouldn't be allowed to supplant people who do the right thing and apply through refugee channels. There are thousands of people who have spent years in dreadful conditions in refugee camps waiting for entry to countries like Australia and it's not right or fair that their places here should be taken by people who can afford to pay people smugglers and who don't care about our immigration laws. This current lot should be given medical treatment and then be deported as soon as they leave hospital - every single one of them. |

i totally agree with you, it should be stopped
i am an Australian and can not bring my husband to australia because his health may cost australia money but these people sail on in carrying who knows how many diseases and they get to stay!
