Australian Citizenship?

Do you believe that citizenship is birth right or do you believe that you should have to recommit to citizenship at 18? Please give me your opinion with a good reason please.

Having people affirm their citizenship at 18 sounds like a good idea and it would be great if it became the 'thing' for everyone to do, but what would you do with people who didn't go along with it if it was compulsory? What would you do with them? A re-education camp like in the old USSR?
Where would you send them? To prison like in dictatorships when people disagree with the government?
Offshore? They would be stateless persons and unwelcome in any country and I doubt if any country is allowed to do that to its own citizens. Not going to happen.

I applied for citizenship to austrailia when I was 20 and was denied because I was just a blue colar worker(construction). Its a tough place to get into. I wish i could just jump a fence or something.... I believe you should have to recommit at 18 if you were born to parents in the country illegaly. I mean hey they shouldnt be there in the first place.
