I'm 100% Lakota so I wonder about this.
What I see when I go to native events in cities like San Francisco, for example, is a large presence of Hispanic or Latino people claiming to be Native American. They call themselves Mexica (Meshika) and many say they want to unite with other Natives and fulfill the Eagle and the Condor prophecy of their people. We real natives don't know of any such prophecy though. I only hear the youth and mixed people talking about this.
They say they are the Aztecs and that they are returning to Atzlan. They are vocal proponents of illegal immigration using media and working with groups like La Raza, MECHa and Brown Berets. All of which use "race" as a focal point in their media and political campaigns. They try to recruit our youth on various reservations talking about unity and pointing out the wrongs the "white" people have done to our people collectively throughout the years. That is a pretty powerful message to our youth, many of whom are living in extreme poverty on the reservations.
Almost every one of these people I have come across speak of immigration as an invasion and they say so on their websites.
They say: In Chicano folklore, Aztlan is often appropriated as the name for that portion of Mexico that was taken over by the United States after the Mexican-American War of 1846 --although no one really knows where it was other than it must have been located near estuaries or on the coast of northwestern Mexico.
Whether you are black, white, red, yellow or some combination of all of the above, what is your opinion on this?

So are these people the enemy encamped within our borders? Have they entered this country illegally and now they want to overthrow us? Are they like squatters claiming the land they stole as their own? Is it a serious threat to our nation or the subversive drivel of a hate filled minority? GW Bush wanted to grant legal status to 20 million Illegal aliens. Do they all support this subversive agenda? Polls show as many as 60% do.
What I want to know is are we going to go through all of this again? My people still haven't completely recovered from the first invasion.

I have often wondered what mainstream American Native people think about this piggybacking of the Raza movement onto their struggle. They have tried to meld their own unfortunate history with the Spanish five hundred years ago onto your ancestors' far more recent experiences with the British and then American military forces. There are those from US native nations that play into this mythology. Try to catch American Indian Airwaves on KPFK or KPFA sometime. You will hear Lakota, Navaho and other distinctly American natives referring to "Chicanos" as indigenous to the US. Their demands include full coverage for all "Raza" under the Indian Health Service, which is already so underfunded that it barely serves the Native Americans it was intended to help. |

I am of Choctaw / Cherokee tribal heritage.....I only know that the hand of God/Great Spirit is against these people....It may seem strange, but I have received several Hawk feathers that seem to come from nowhere---opening of my car door to get out and a hawk feather falls directly into my lap....the other day walking to the post office in town---one came from the sky and fell in front of me in the path......other native americans I have spoken with regarding this tell me that my spirit guide is there and the Hawk feathers offer protection .... the anquish I sense is a warning, that I must do what is cohesive to my promptings......stand firm and not allow the heavy weight to burden my spirit...trust in our forefathers and know that they are here in this time to bring about what balance must occur.......

I thought the Native Americans were almost wiped out. They can't be "invaded" again if there is none of them left, maybe the latinos are trying to help you by saying they are Native American? You know so they can pretend that there are more then 10 left; here is what I think is a good ratio 9-1. What I mean by the 9-1 ratio, is that there are 9 Hispanic people pretending to be a Native american (because no one wants to be Hispanic apperently) for every real Native american. It seems to me everyone should just be greatfull that they are pretending to be Native Americans. That way the Native Americans don't get wiped out (in the public eye), and the illegal immagrants get to stay here (untill Arizona get's them).
