First of all it was not one Border Patrol agent it was two. There names are Ramos and Compean...both hispanic.
Second it wasn't simply an illegal trying to enter the US it was in fact a drug smuggler.
He abandoned his vehicle and ran for the border. He knocked one of the agents to the ground. His partner shot at the drug smuggler when he turned toward him. The agent thought he missed but actually hit him in the buttocks.
The Dept of Homeland Security tracked the drug smuggler down in Mexico, granted him immunity from his crime and treated his wound in exchange for testifying against the two agents.
During the trial the industrious drug smuggler was caught smuggling drugs into the US a second time and the US attorney generals office granted him immunity a SECOND time.
The two Border Patrol agents were convicted although jurors later had second thoughts and admitted to being pressured by the attorney generals office.
The drug smuggler is now suing the Border Patrol for 5 million dollars.
My thoughts? The biggest travesty of justice I have ever heard of. The US Attorney Generals should be prosecuted, the drug smuggler should not be allowed to sue...he should be jailed |

Yes let the officer go and initiate a new law to shoot on sight all illegals. I.e. not going through legal channels to enter the country. |

I thought law enforcement had the right to shoot somebody so they could be apprehended. Again, this shows how much rights an illegal has, even if they haven't been in this country for more than a minute. I think it's a discrace that this officer is punished for doing his job. |

There would be a lot less people crossing the border if they knew there was a chance they would be shot at. With that said, the way law enforcement is set up in our country you just can't start shooting at people. |

What is the border patrols job? He didn't kill the illegal did he? How many illegals have been shot so far? I think they should send dogs after the illegals, rather then shoot them. Now lets reverse this situation, What if someone from our country was trying to sneak into Mexico? What would they do, if their economy was better over there? |

Put some more details and names if possible.
Go to goggle to locate most of the story. The agents are Ramos and Compean.They were convicted on the sayso of a drug smuggler. The one who was shot is the drug smuggler. They have not been send to prison.Some politicians are trying to get the convictions removed.
The drug smuggler was running from the agents into Mexico when he was shot. Later another agent doing the internal investigation went into Mexico to look for the smuggler. |

Further proof that people who break the law are stupid, and juries are even dumber. People getting injured during illegal activity sue the people that injured them and actually get away with it!!
People injured in the act of breaking ANY law should NEVER be allowed to sue the potential victims. |

Well, it was unjustified. The Agent should of apprehended the person, not shoot them. Unless if there was a reason, such as the individual having a weapon and the agent's life was in danger, then its justified. Other wise it wasn't justified. |

It seems that "illegal" tied into "immigrant" has a similar effect upon the "modern" "educated" "civilized?" democracies- was it somebody's Son that was shot? was it somebody's Son that shot him?.. could tourists be mistaken for illegal immigrants and could border patrols be seen a hitlers prodigies? How many tags apply to you and how many attached to you do you accept?.... so much for cultured behavior patterns.... um? |
